To Bidet or not Bidet, that is the question....

I put one of these in my guest bathroom, and now there is no way I would ever want to be without one. I put them into much the same category as a microwave oven, TV remote control, or a backup camera on a vehicle.

Once you have one, you'll wonder how the hell you ever lived without it. I'm sorry, but this is where the Europeans have us beat all to hell. They discovered long ago it is much better to have a system to wash your backside. Where as we still think taking dry paper and smearing crap all over it is, "clean enough".

You wouldn't wipe your sweaty armpits with toilet paper and call them clean. So why would you do the same with your butt? Sorry to be a bit crude, but there is no better way I can explain it.

This unit from Home Depot is well made, not expensive, easy to install, and works like magic. And if someone asks "what is that"? Just tell them, "You don't see any grass or plants in here, do you"?... Trust me, they'll be able to figure it out.

Put one similar on my toilet back in 2020? when we started going thru toilet paper shortages. Wouldn't be without it...and cold water won't hurt your tush!

Look at it this way. Your neighbors dog takes a massive dump on your nice clean driveway. You proceed to pick up what you can from his rather large, "deposit". (Equivalent to flushing).

Now you're faced with cleaning up the nice brown stain that is left behind.... Along with other little, "tidbits" located here and there. What would work better for that task?... A wad of toilet paper, or a hose and nozzle? Same principal.

Europeans and Asians have used Bidets for many many years.
Yes, exactly, many, many, many years. Southeast Asia all over, even in Tokyo International Airport as well as all over the Philippines.
In the USA this is one thing we fall behind (no pun intended! *LOL*) as dry toilet paper is not exactly cleaning.
Im considering, more so since I just saw your post as a reminder having just returned form Asia, my wife who is Asian would certainly agree about getting one, I have resisted over the years but this looks easy to install. The price almost seems to cheap and a no brainer, looks like a respectable brand. Of course now I will research it to death.

@ZZman - good post
I like this home improvement thread.

Not to mention TP in most public restrooms in the US is thinner than hair. Gotta fold it numerous times before using. :)

Then again, many other countries (in Europe especially) make you pay to use public restrooms.

Yes and yes. First experienced in Japan decades ago.

Started with an add on - then replaced all toilets with Totos and an integrated "washlet"/ Bidet.

Not going back to TP alone if I can ever help it.

@UncleDave
Hey, any recommendations for an add-on to start?
My wife has wanted one for a long time, I resisted, no going back now that I showed her this thread AND just getting back from our Asia trip.
OMG the Airport stalls in Japan are amazing *LOL*

Let me check with the wife on which unit we added onto the house in LA.

My memory says it was called "Tushy".

She's out of town helping Jr with his first home painting and doing Mom stuff.

There was a nearby sink so we were able to tap the hot water line making it much more pleasant.

@ZZman @UncleDave (I think this might be a good starting point for us)
I found this on Amazon, pretty good review. Im strongly leaning towards the Brondell
He brings up some good points if you have young kids too.

Brondell looks good, check out tushy.
I dont see how you adjust water temp on brondell?

These are fantastic, as are the toilets.

The flush power remains undefeated after 2 years even with the "champion" toilet plugger that occasionally visits.

One gets used to a heated seat very quickly in the winter.

Cold water only unless you get the warm water model, wouldnt make sense with us as warm water takes way to long to our master bath and not interested in electric

Leaning strongly to the Brondell because the integrated seat will look less as an add-on ... may look a bit longer but then I get to the point of driving myself nuts
AXENT is another brand I have to check before ordering. Looks very similar maybe its the same except the control.

Edit - im not so sure about the Brondell anymore... starting to drive myself nuts with researching.

We're getting a bathroom remodel right now so we're shopping for fixtures, etc. At the plumbing supply store yesterday and was completely surprised at the state of toilets these days, as well as the cost of some of them!
Saw one for about $10,000.00! The lid would open itself as you approached, it was lighted, and would play birds singing in the background! Simply amazing. Oh, yeah, it had all the bidet features as well.
When we commented on it to the sales person, they said that most any toilet can be adapted to bidet features. The biggest drawback is the need for an electrical outlet nearby.

On a side note, I think the Muslim religion makes it MANDATORY that water is used to clean afterwards.
