Christmas has become nothing but a commercial holiday. It's purely a money making, marketing ploy. When the US was founded, it was an afterthought. It wasn't celebrated anything like it is today. I'm not taking away from the religious significance of the holiday, just pointing out what it represents societaly and culturally, today.

You are correct. The season of goodwill and eternal significance can become meaninglessness in the hands commercial marketing.
There is hope. We all have a voice and by spreading the word the spirit of Christmas can return to the traditional time of year.
My parents were peasant framers and after settling in Australia in late 1950s they worked hard and by the early 1980s owned their own house and gave us kids a better start in life.
At the end of the 1980's my mum made a similar comment its Christmas every day. I asked what do mean ?
She replied "in our home town we did not much only ate to survive expect for Christmas and Easter. She said at Christmas and Easter all families baked special cookies, cakes, various types of sweets and treats. All families got together and had a decent feed. Today this is every day and we may forgotten where we came from"
Take a walk in my mums mind, get up at 4am take the sheep out into field, not a soul in sight, graze them until 12pm go home get dinner ready at aged 9.
Now walk her in mind 25 years on, walk down the city mall coffee and cake at $5.50 / head every day. Pay for a coffee and cake every day. What luxury ?
Maybe my mum is right we take lots for granted today and may not appreciate some things until it is lost.
I guess be thankful for what you do have whilst our journey on this earth is but a short time compared to eternity.
