Tires Cracking on Original Michelins

So I just bought the Ridgeline and they had put a new set on the front as they said they were 50% but the back was 60% so they didn't change them. But when I was looking closer today I can see that the tires on the back are cracked between the tread all around the tire and is cracking where the tire meets the wheel. Tires only have 41000 miles or so on them.
Would that be dry rot?
I have to stop at Honda tomorrow, is there a chance I would be able to get them to replace them since that probably should have been done when they put the other new set on?
 
You need to talk to someone from Michelin. It's possible there is nothing wrong with the tires OR someone put old tires on your Honda. I believe Michelin doesn't want you to use tires that are more than 6 or 7 years old; tire's have mfg dates coded into their sidewalls.
 
Call up Michelin .. they will open up a file and will determine what the problem is..I got a complete set of new tires for little money..
 
at 41k, don't expect anything. seen this on several makes and models of tires at comperable mileage. modern tire quality has taken a nose dive. even the most expensive tires go to [censored] over 30k.

the dealer should replace them, as the structural integrity of the tire is compromised. cracks in the sidewall are not just cosmetic.

Id complain, the tires are definitely compromised when they crack and rot. The dealer should replace the rear since its a safety issue, or at least split them with you.

Not true. What you are looking at is ozone checking. 99% of the time it is only cosmetic. Unless the cracking/checking is going through multiple layers of rubber there no need for concern.
 
I had the same issue with my Michelins when I bought my Ridge in 2009. I just never went back as I intended to replace them with General Grabbers. 72k miles later I still haven't replaced them. But when I do it will be with the same Michelin model.

Join the Ridgeline Owners Club and you'll get some good advice as to how to handle exchanging them at a fraction of the full price. I really wish I had done it but oh well. They still handle great, they just look bad up close.
 
No way if pay good money for a used car and have it with a mismatched set of tires.

Unless you feel that was factored into the deal in terms of what you paid (since used Hondas are so expensive, I have my doubts), at which point, I'd take care of it myself.
 
I got Kitacamry with 2 new tires (made just 3 months before I bought the car) up front and two 5-year old tires at the rear...too old for me, even though the tread was okay...

When a tire sidewall shows signs of cracking it's important to look on the sidewall and check the date when the tire was made...I feel that five year old tires should be discarded regardless tread remaining...

I replaced the old pair with a tires matching those up front and manufactured just a week after them....I feel much better riding on a matched set of recently made tires.

Well went to dealer today getting 2 new tires put on next week, when they change out the cracked plastic pulley in the rear seats under warranty.

I'll get some tomorrow and post them. We had snow all day today and I worked last night and slept till 1 went to Honda and then went and worked on peoples computers at a business and a friends house. So by the time I got home it was dark again. I'll get some tomorrow. Service dept said they were dry rotted, so thats why they are replacing them.
 
This is likely normal ozone checking. Every single tire I've owned will show this type of checking in the tread grooves and sometimes near the bead on the sidewall (though that is less common).
 
The Honda Service guys said it was dry rot, so they are getting them replaced. May just be ozone cracking but hey I'm getting 2 new tires so that will be great.

I took my younger brother to school this morning and it is -15F out and my tires are full of snow, so I'll get some pics as soon as I can.

4309 is the Tire date production from the side of the tire

This sidewall picture is one of the better cracks, it looks more like the others around the rest of the 2 tires. I was just trying to get back inside and took quick pictures.
