I have a '12 Accent with 16" wheels. The stock tire size is 195/50-16. I am looking at the Kumho Ecsta 4x, Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval AS, Hankook Optimo H426 or the Falken Ziex 912. I drive mostly highway now. I'm in west TX so cold seasons are quick, but need decent wet handling since we do get some good rain sometimes. I do not want a summer tire.

Any recommendations? These are really all my options because of my off tire size.

thanks!

I have the Hankook h426 on my 2013 Kia Forte, and I really love them, they ride good, and handle good dry and wet(no chance to drive in the snow yet). They also seem to be wearing good. I WILL buy Hankook when i need new tires if I don't have the money for Michelins. My second Choice in your list would be the Firestone.

I've gotten a lot of flack for having Firestone on my list.....Are they decent tires now?

everyone has good and bad tire models.

FWIW: I have the kumho 4x and have been relatively happy with them.

I'm somewhat OCD about tires and the only thing(s) bad I've found is
1. some slight flat-spotting during the winter.
2.MPG went down 5-7% from the oem tires that had bad traction.

I got them with a triple rebate that priced them at aprox 50% cheaper than the other tires I was considering.

I dont know anything about the other tires, except that Ecsta 4x has decent dry and wet traction. Do NOT get Falkein Zeix 912s !!!!!!! I took a set off my Acura with 7/32nds on it because I had ZERO confidence when driving in rain. The tires broke free often and quite suddenly without warning.

You could upgrade to 205/50r16 and get way more choices. Youll run about 1.5% faster than your odometer, thats about it.

Speedo or odometer?

reason i ask is because my speedometer is already about 1-2 mph faster that what my actual speed is.

I work in a Hyundai service department and we sell a lot of Hankook and Kumho tires. Both brands are good, but based on hundreds of vehicles that I have seen, the Hankooks are the better tire.
I loved the Firehawks that I had on my P71. I have Hankook Dynapro on my TB.

Firestone Affinity Touring---known as Precision Touring at TR, thanks to Firestone's weird product naming scheme---is a good solid tire for basic driving, including rain. (No snow experience yet.) However, it does not come in the size you need. What is up with Hyundai putting weird sizes on 'sporty' trims of its recent small cars? (215/45/17 on the Elantra, I think.)

As suggested, switching to 205/50 leads to lots more choices. That's what I would do, I think. If you go the 205/50 route, it's about a 1.64% difference in diameter. Your speedo will read 60 mph when you are really going 61. (Plus or minus whatever error is built in to the OE programming.)

Let's hope you can find a shop that will install a plus-zero size tire that meets OE load and speed rating specs.

hmmmm so then if my speedo reads about 61-62 when im doing 60, the 205 tire might make it read correctly too?

More or less. Also, brand new tires can affect the speedo very slightly, compared to bald tires, or so I hear. This is why it's good to allow a 2-mph cushion in speed traps and school zones, etc.

This is a lot of money for tires to put on an Accent, but I have a non-tire-geek friend who drooled over driving on these: http://is.gd/yLT2Fp
