Tire Rack had a great site, not so much now. Why?

The Tire Rack has always been the best online site to shop for tires. Had everything you needed to know easily available. Brands, prices, reviews, tests, specs, installer, and everything else you could think of. But, now the new "improved" website is nothing short of cumbersome. Thanks to you and me, they had to respond, because everyone used their website to research tires, and go all over the internet trying to beat them up on price. So that's just great!

You're not a millennial are you?

Me either. They just needed to modernize.

Yeah...hate their new site...a triumph of style over functionality...

Sure looks pretty...sure doesn't deliver information well...

The old style was better for those of us who had been using it to do research on tire(s) we plan to buy, the new style looks fancier but does not contain the information we need at a glance.

their prices are OK, it's the shipping that kills you.

Free shipping is never free, just sugarcoating.

You'd think that but in the three times I've bought from Discount Tire Direct either they carried a cheaper alternative I wanted that TR didn't or DTD's pricing was better with free shipping...and not the $40-$50 freight charge that TR wanted. My last transaction with TR involved a rep that definitely had an attitude that wasn't coerced by anything I did...that was it for me.

Went to TR site today and agree it's bad. Used their research and bought my tires online at tirebuyer.com. TR wants you to buy 4 and you have to jump thru hoops to buy less. Called tirebuyer to see if I could only buy two and they said , no problem.

There is no such thing as FREE SHIPPING! Sure, it comes down to total costs, not counting service. Good luck on trying to find out any useful information on discount tire, like tire specifications, or anything useful, other than price, for example. Price isn't everything sometimes.

I know that I don't do change well. I'm not opposed to it, but it is difficult for me to adjust.

So when TR changed their website, it caused me to struggle. But so far, I can do what I did before - find what I found before. I'm not happy, but I'll live.

I think it's very easy to find things on the new website. All of the test results are a single click away from the home page. Up go to "Research and Advice" and click on "Tire Test Results and Videos". From there, you can filter by brand or performance category. If you're already looking at a specific tire, and want to see the test results for it, just scroll down the page and any test results for that tire are shown.

I like that when you're browsing a list of tires for a given size, there's a "Tire Rack Tested" link below the thumbnail picture of a tire that's been tested. Clicking that link carries you straight to the test for that tire. Smart.

The site's visual appeal is nice and I think that it's at least as functional as the old site. The old site wasn't very useful on a phone, and the new one is; I like that.

This is what the changes are all about; phones and tablets. Us PC (and Mac) users are just roadkill.

I just did the feedback form and got a nice personalized response back very quickly. Key sentence for me, "We are working to compress the display from our initial release." He also said that they are de-emphasizing UTQG information because what the manufacturers provide is marketing driven not hard data.

So, I'll withhold any more criticism and see how the site looks in a month or two.

yup, this.

A B&M tire store has to pay for the building, taxes, worker's comp, keeping the lights on. I don't mind if "free shipping" similarly counts as a backend expense. DTD seems to find success in their business model, free shipping included.

I wonder if their captive bank with the 26.99% interest is keeping them afloat.

Works just fine for me. I'm using FF.
