2003 V8 4-Runner with Michelin 265-70-R16 Cross-Terrain OEM tires. They lasted 80k miles, wore evenly with periodic rotation and balance. Driven mostly by my wife, an ez driver. At replacement time they were not available anymore. Replaced them with Michelin Latitude Tour's of the same size. These new tires will not quite make it to 40k (80k guarantee) with the exact same driving conditions and drivers, myself and my wife. Evidently these replacement tires are giving other drivers the same problems. The tire store is offering a pro-rated replacement but I'm wondering if I want to end up with another set of tires that won't last. Driving is almost all street and some unpaved roads but good condition, no ruts or other obstacles. No snow, ever and very little rain, some light weight towing but no hauling heavy loads. Any suggestions....

I know you are probably soured on the Michelin brand, but if you are looking for a long mileage and a quiet highway tire check out the Michelin lt x ms2 if its in your size

Still it's hard to beat a Michelin tire when you get the right one. I second the LT-X recomendation. I had LTX's on a Chevy pick up and loved them. Some wholsale clubs (Costco, Sam's) have Michelin X radials that are very similar and a good value.

It's been my experience Michelin is easier to deal with when/if you have a problem, as evidenced by your experience.

As stated in the last part of my original post...

I'm just disappointed that the replacements for the Cross-Terrains were junk. Even with the same 80k guarantee. And they were not cheap. And even with the pro-rated replacement it's going to cost more. I'll probably take the pro-rated replacements but if these don't work out that will be the end of me ever buying a Michelin tire again.

The new LTX MS2 is fantastic. May last nearly forever, I get great performance out of them.

We are running at least 4 sets now, changing over from the older LTX MS models. We use 265/70/17 LT on Silverados and 245/75/16 on 3500 Savana service vans with 4000 pounds on board.

They are an amazing tire for us, easily outlasting almost anything while offering a ridiculously high level of performance AND smooth ride. My guys routinely think we bought new shocks or suspension parts when all we did was get new rubber.
