I have a Coats 5050 rim clamp tire machine. This is the electric motor version and when I step on the pedal for both forward and reverse, all I get is a humming noise from the motor. I took off the side panel to take a look inside, and the motor turns by hand just fine. The only electrical parts are the reverse switch connected to the pedal, and the motor. Two wires from power go to the switch, and from the switch, it looks like there are 4 wires to the motor. Anybody know how to diagnose this?

Im thinking there's a phase missing, the motor would be 3 phase so the direction can be reversed. So that points to either the switch not working (I guess theres a condensator in there to simulate 3 phases) or the motor lost one of its windings. Time to check voltages and/or resistance of windings.

there's a condensator in the motor, both the domestic and export version, between the red and black wire for domestic, there's a winding and a condensator

The capacitor is usually under a cylindrical metal cover screwed to the outside of the motor. Easy to test if you have a VOM or take the capacitor to an electric motor shop for testing.

Would it be under that hump on the bottom?

Depends on what the downtime for the machine costs.

I don't know your business, so I can't advise on waiting on an exact replacement or getting a locally sourced "will work for now" solution to use.

Heck, it might make sense to do both. Get something from a Granger or similar that works now and then find the original replacement to put on later, keeping the "works for now" capacitor with the machine.

If that's the original it's over 20 years old so I wan't the same brand.
