My grand daughter is at ohio state and priced two tires for her car . The disposal was $ 25.00 per tire. I'm in Cape coral fl same fee is $ 4.00 per tire . Glad I'm here.

No way was the disposal fee $25 per tire. I'd tell them to put them in the trunk for that price.
County dump here takes up to 4 tires per resident per day for free.
Installation-Ohio disposal fee is only $1/tire. And sometimes communities will take them for free ( not sure about Columbus).

Just had new tires put on and my mech didn't charge a disposal fee.
Most places the fee is charged on the sale of new tires, similar to a battery. I would imagine not everywhere has it.

I think my state charges $1 per tire when you buy them. The statement says that fee is for ecology/environmental research and cleanup. I mount and balance my own tires and I just take my old tires to WalMart where they charge me $2.50 per tire to recycle them.
Once a year my county has a waste reclamation day where they take tires for free. Other days they take paint and other household waste for free. I don't feel like having old tires laying around my house for a year so I just take them to WalMart and dump them off for 10 bucks. This only happens every few years so it hasn't put me in the poor house YET!
I simply can't imagine a tire dealer charging $25 for a disposal fee. That must have included the mounting, balancing and disposal combined. I'd love to see the receipt on that one.

I am in Ohio and I recently paid $5 per tire. I think it's a shop's decision what to charge.

Thank you for all the input. Yes that is the correct charge. But she is smart and had the amount removed and somehow the tires are gone.

Some states charge a $1 or so on new tires for an environmental impact fee, in addition to whatever it costs the shop to legally dispose of the old tire. But it won't add up to $25.

South Carolina charges $2.00 per tire - and its on the sale of the new tire. All the county recycling places will take old tires for free.
Here there is a $2 fee imposed on the new tire cost, which covers getting rid of the old at the same shop (though the last shop did also, as an installer who I did not buy the tires from, charge a $2.50 each tire "handling" fee), or the county has a day/few-days a year when you can take them in for free disposal along with other items. I should add I'm not in Ohio, just across the river from Cincinnati, in KY.
