We're looking for tires soon. Thought we could get by until winter buy my wife said she hydroplaned today a lot on the hwy in the rain.

A couple months ago an online retailer (discounttiredirect.com?) had $100 off a set of 4 for a few days. Know of any similar deals?

If it matters I'm looking at the Cooper Zeon RS3-A or a couple different Kuhmo models.

Thanks.

Got an easy solution for you. Tell the wife to put down the cell phon, slow down and not drive in the rain. Then sleep on the couch for the next week.

235/55-18...on the Equinox right?

I would go with a set of Dueler H/L Alenzas from Costco. With the current $70 off 4 tires and $30 off install, you can be out-the-door for $800.

Check out local retailers too.

Our local major chain (Sullivan) typically has buy 3 get the 4 th free on certain brands which is a great deal when you have expensive size tires.

Not sure, I'd have to check. These would be for our Vibe. 205/55/16.

Almost pulled the trigger a couple months ago with that one $100 off 4 that that online retailer had (can't remember the exact site for the life of me) but my wife's job situation was in limbo a bit. Now it is good and we need them pretty soon.

Wally, why do you want a ultra high performance all-season tire for the Vibe? Unless your wife is a very aggressive driver, she might get better results from a tire like the Cooper CS4-H if it is in your size. I had the CS4-T which I liked a lot and bought with the express purpose of softening a harsh ride (worked well), but would prefer the H in other respects. If you look at TireRack's Survey Results, Kumho tires look pretty underwhelming. You can probably get better for the same money (and TireRack doesn't rate Cooper, 'cuz they don't sell them.)

Don't need the ultra high performance, but would like a high performance. She drives aggressive a bit and the Vibe is sporty. The Coopers I listed are rated highly and I'd like to try them if I can get a decent deal (they should be having a $75 MIR soon like most summers). We have the Kuhmo Escata XL Platinums on it now and they have been good tires. Occasionally a local dealer runs buy 3 get 1 free on them, but they don't have it right now.

You guys have a Ken Towery Tire Center in Lexington? They have a $100 off a set for the month of July. I'm in Louisville...

Sure do. Have a brand new one a few miles from our house. I saw they had $100 off Coopers in June, didn't know it was in July, too. I'll probably wait and hope the Cooper rebate starts soon so I can piggy-back them. $100 off isn't a good enough deal for me to pull the trigger when the local prices are already way higher than online, and usually still more even accounting for shipping and install.

Coworker got Cooper Zeons for his Vibe; he pictured it being a performance/ sports car not an econo-wagon.

He had an extremely minor alignment issue, something in the rear that needed shimming to reach perfection, and the zeons were scary. It was our opinion they were "too sticky" and yanking the car. Switching to snow tires cured the issue, as did the yoko avids he's running now.

I'd buy avids, frankly. I know they have a bunch of different sub-brands-- go for the touring ones.

Edit: jeez, make me eat my words, they have a dozen touring styles!

I'd get the cheapies, might be able to find those stocked locally.

Did he get the summer ones or the all-season version? They are very different tires. We also need a shim on one of the back wheels (it has needed it since we got the car in 2005, hasn't caused any problems really).

Not familiar wiht avids, will check them out.

Coopers would be fine-CS4 or Zeon (though CS4 better all season tires)

Sam's/Costco offer BFG tires at a good price.

Yoko Avids are a good choice too.

General Atimax/Evertrak RTs/HPs do very good as well and quite often are at a good price too...

General Altimax HP's are a good tire imo, got ~55k out of them on a Civic and ~2k wear left on them when I bought new tires last November. They are directional but I didn't find that to be an issue. Excellent hydroplaning resistance, good handling and good treadwear. You can see a couple pics at ~50k miles of wear here. The Altimax RT is supposed to be a decent tire too, longer treadwear rating than the HP but T rated rather that the HP's H rating. Reason I mention them is there is currently a $50 Visa Rebate good till 8/15. Something to consider.

Not sure when the next DTD $100 off a set of 4 tires promo will came around again.

Last year DT ran that promo July 4th weekend and again on Labor Day weekend....I'm guessing the same this year. I'm holding off purchasing until then.

Anyone know anything about Sailun Atrezzo SH402 tires? We need the AC serviced and the place we were looking to get that done at has buy 3 get 1 free on any tire, but their selection isn't very good for V rated tires (205/55/16). Thanks.
