Tipping at Fast Food Places

Why even ask for a tip up front if you are not providing any service outside the counter. I guess they figure a certain percentage will be sensitive people who will tip for nothing.
When I was still working in downtown Chicago, there were food trucks that would park around the corner from my building. Every now and then I'd go to one of them for lunch even though it was pricy. One day their computer screen started asking for a tip; they got one but that was the last time I went.

The Harold's chicken food truck is not off Clark/Monroe anymore :(

I almost paid ~$40 for a donair the other day because after I pressed the "tip amount" option ( I wanted to give them $2) I pressed 200 and the machine was setup with the default as a percentage rather than dollar amount . Luckily I caught it before finalizing the payment.

I tip at our favorite Chinese takeout where I stand at the counter and order, about 3/4 of the time. We really enjoy it and they do a good job so I tip. Standing/sitting doesn't matter. Quality and service matter. And I use cash every time. Makes it extremely easy to control everything, more than using confusing electronic systems of various types.

I didn't think to take a picture, but I was at a local grocery store on the other side of town last night...it's so local that they still have baggers and will take your stuff out to the car for you on those big, rectangular carts. At the exit is a sign that read along the lines of "Excellent Service is what we strive to provide, therefore, tipping is not expected nor required."

Writes the wealthy owner - I’d still tip - cash in hand - so he/she won’t see a penny of the tip …

We are bound to have someone here who works at such a place or knows someone who does and can verify or refute this.
Sometimes tips are shared-sometimes they are not. It depends on the owner/manager.

Source-It's been discussed over and over again else where on the Net and commented on by people that actually work at these places.

I'm sure it still happens. The store is unionized so if the staff is underpaid, they need to see where their dues are going. ;) And I'm not going to say anymore lest a metaphorical hot-topic/third-rail be touched.

Wonder if this sign is the future?????
