Tip- don't say yes to your wife on a one-night anniversary overnight without checking the rates

The hotel we stay at is not that important. We've stayed at crummy (cheap) hotels and don't do that anymore. What we look for is a comfortable middle of the road sort of place. 3 or 4 stars is about right.

We never use the pool, hot-tub, or weights room. We never use the safe or minibar either. We do have the breakfast, and consider a good breakfast important. European breakfasts are just amazing.

Recently, proximity to a Supercharger has been important when we're in long distance driving mode..

I recently spent 5 nights at a convention at $300 a night. Spent 8 hours a day max at the hotel by myself. This other $1000 option sounds better.

Many, many years ago, when my wife and I were on a vacation, we stayed at an expensive hotel. We dropped off our bags, and went out to explore the city and have dinner. We got home just in time to settle in and go to bed. The next day, I realized we had put out good money, and got nothing more out of it than we would have at a budget hotel. We have never done that since.

That said, if my wife asked me if I would buy her some expensive gift, for example a new long arm quilting machine, I would gladly do it. She asks for so little, as far as expensive items, so I would be all about treating her to something nice. So what is the difference between something tangible, or an expensive vacation? If it makes my sweetheart happy, and we can afford it, then I'm all for making her feel special.

@BHopkins , you raise a key point. Like your Wife, my Wife asks for almost nothing. For some reason, she asked for this. I plan to deliver and deliver with a smile and work hard to overlook the money spent. Further, I plan to take @MNgopher recommendation and book for two nights.

I wouldn't think of it as $1000.00 for one night. Think of it as x amount of dollars for each year you've been married. If you're married 50 years, this wonderful woman is only costing an extra $20.00 a year. Sounds like a bargain to me!

The rates START at $1,000 USD per night. Ouch, ouch, ouch. This place is reportedly booked/ sold out often. How the heck can a place in Colorado Springs command $1,000 USD per night for the weekday in October....

Victoria, BC to Budapest and Amsterdam to Victoria, BC. It's a long way (9 hours time difference). Premium Economy outbound and Business Class return.

After traveling Premium Economy (on KLM) we won't be traveling Economy again.

Congrats on a 50 years!!! Sue and I are at 48 years. Sadly, that seems to be a rarity now days.
