Tip- don't say yes to your wife on a one-night anniversary overnight without checking the rates

I won't buy a bottle of water at the airport on principle, not if I can afford it. I can swing the $1,000 monetarily. Not sure I can swing the $1,000 mentally.
Don't forget to leave the usual percentage tip for the room maids

My wife would be the first one to look at the prices. So no particular worries here.

I get it, the cost would bug me too. But once in a while? this is why we save our pennies--so we can spend dollars when it will return the most joy.

We rode the Luxury Parlor Car on the Grand Canyon Railroad for our anniversary a few years back, 2017 or 2018. Spent two nights in a very nice Super 8, ate every meal at nice restaurants and so on. Never got close to $ 1,000. We had a wonderful time.

Yes, Super 8 has some very nice properties. The one in Williams was one of them.

Absolutely not. It'll be a cold day in hell before I spend a grand on a single night at a hotel. Even though I could afford to do so, even if I was a multi-billionaire, it's not going to happen. The fancy stuff means nothing to me, and I bet the bed will still leave my back in agony. Fortunately, my wife is the same way as me. We're spending our 10 year anniversary this year at Louder Than Life festival, and we're spending less than $1k for the entire 4-day event.

I see that way too but why bring @Pablo into this ? ( multi billionaire) 😁

I'm pretty sure wifey knew exactly what she was spending and she also knows that it won't kill your finances to do it.
The occasional splurge is fun and usually worth it.
I know that it's more fun to buy an S-class Benz at auction for well under a grand and bring it home to discover that it needs a whole lot less than what you were prepared for, but I doubt that is really your wife's thing.

Wife texted me and said she found a hotel in Colorado Springs for us to spend a one night anniversary in October. Three days later we will be in the area for our oldest Grandson's birthday.

Being out of town working, I simply said yes without checking the rates.

The rates START at $1,000 USD per night. Ouch, ouch, ouch. This place is reportedly booked/ sold out often. How the heck can a place in Colorado Springs command $1,000 USD per night for the weekday in October....

It's the broadmoor. It has a long history in Colorado Springs and is supposedly very upscale. Second are there any events in town that weekend? If so that makes a huge difference in rates.

Ha, my Wife did the same to us quite a few years back at the Bardessono in Yountsville, CA, and the thought just went against my grain as I mostly saw hotels as a place to sleep and base for local activities or a resort for the kiddies. I had a great time....more importantly, she enjoyed it.

Also, I will say as I have gotten older, and traveled far less for work and more for adventure, I have come to appreciate what a place like where you are staying offers. I hear the Broadmoor is wonderful, assuming that is it.

Congrats on the anniversary, you will enjoy the experience!
