Wife texted me and said she found a hotel in Colorado Springs for us to spend a one night anniversary in October. Three days later we will be in the area for our oldest Grandson's birthday.

Being out of town working, I simply said yes without checking the rates.

The rates START at $1,000 USD per night. Ouch, ouch, ouch. This place is reportedly booked/ sold out often. How the heck can a place in Colorado Springs command $1,000 USD per night for the weekday in October....

Just look how happy they are at the Broadmoor with their $90 meal that includes the cup-o-fries:

I won't buy a bottle of water at the airport on principle, not if I can afford it. I can swing the $1,000 monetarily. Not sure I can swing the $1,000 mentally.
I bring my own hydroflask to the airport but if I'm traveling on business, I'm buying the $3.50 bottle of Evian.
