Time Warner Bill Going Up Again!

Yup. We've talked about it recently in the Consumer Electronics subforum. Comcast bills have similarly gone up a few months ago, too.

Also if you do not want your cable bill to go up ask a 4 letter network to lower the price of broadcast rights that the mothership charges.

I had enough and turned it off over two years ago. Since then, it has been an extra $2000 in *my* pocket.

My cable bill is going to go down, significantly, in the next two hours.

Goodbye Cable TV.

Well I hope you garner enough support and have a trickle down and effect the reason why your rates increase.

it's the comcast effect. I'm on free ota antenna with company paid broadband work at home. I still can't believe folks are paying 200/month for these services.

10 bucks a month for netflix and 10 bucks a month for hulu plus is a lot better than 80 a month for cable.... except for Monday and Thursday night football. Still you have a few months to figure that out.

We're on Cablevision - rates are pretty much the same as this increase AFAIK. Actually broadband went up to $59.95 a few month's back. We've opted for basic cable for the last 8-10 years because of how expensive the supposed family cable plan (or whatever it's called) is, but have been able to get the cable box fee waived. Once that stops (which I expect to be soon) I think it'll be time to drop the cable all together, maybe get a Roku box and hulu plus.

The cost for what we have already annoys me. It used to astound me when I went to pay our bill in person and people I would see waiting in line would be paying a $200-$300 bill. I just can't justify that for us. Wish there was some reasonable way to get the internet cost down.

It's those 'greedy' athletes and Hollywood entertainers driving up costs. I'm pretty close to dumping 'Cable' too....screw them.

Supposed to. We all know how that works though.

COX announced a price increase too, as did Dish and DirecTV. It happens every year...

It's sports. ESPN charges about $4.69/mo per subscriber, and requires their channel to be in the basic tier so you're paying for it if you watch it or not. Some regional sports channels are over $3/mo.

Of course the reason they are so high is they have to pay for the rights to broadcast the games and highlights.

Yup, it's known as the "annual rate increase"

We pay them $14/month for the mandated minimum package in PA. All networks, PBS, a couple of independents, ME TV and THIS. All we need as we don't watch much. And we make them send us a paper bill each month and send them a papercheck just to minimize their profit.

Someone gets it. If you have ever sat in a conference call with Telecom providers you will realize that the last thing most executives want to do is increase rates. But to provide the content that subscribers want rates have to be increased to remain profitable. If the company is owned by a corporate shell that is publicly traded it is required to remain profitable. If you do not want to pay for content it is your right to cancel your service.

Most people are surprised that most cable companies do the bulk of their business as ISP's.
With more and more networks offering streaming services the day will come that the "cable" company will only become a ISP.
