Time To Forget Regular Fuel Additive ?

As nowadays car are controlled by electronic engine management, many times fuel additive only helps to correct problems on "shock dosage". When it is used on the maintenance dosage, the engine performance suffer or the fuel economy suffer.

So is it time that we should change our paradigm about fuel additive like engine oil, only use additive to correct problems but not for normal daily usage ?

I have used Fuel Power (FP60) for years or the new version for years every fill up. Have not noticed engine performance suffer and fuel economy suffer. Actually, the opposite seems to be true. Car runs great. Also, every gallon of gas for my power equipment gets FP mixed in. I have not had a carb rebuild since following that practice. To be fair I don't know how things would run without this additive (but I don't want to find out). What I have been doing is working well for me.

Could be a case of "depends on the car"? I ran a bottle of Redline through my Jetta 1.8T and wasn't particularly happy with it (though it seems to get good reviews, generally). Doubt I'll do that again. But on my wife's Eclipse it was much better.

Recline SI-1 didn't seem to do much on my '96 Saturn with 120k either. That car had never seen a fuel additive prior to that Redline.

If the fuel system is clean then a cleaner will not make an improvment.
