I'm wondering if there is a set number of hours that you can keep a car up on rhino ramps. High of 95F today, if that matters.

Having trouble taking oil filter off, so car has been up on the ramps for a few hours. Its not like there is a time limit for those things, is there? Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question; I'd rather find out now than by seeing them crack or fail.

Which vehicle are you trying to take the filter off of? Are the ramps on a driveway outside or In a garage?

Why are you having a hard time removing the filter?

Leave the filter on for two oil changes.

I'm working on the Sienna. Ramps are on a driveway.

I am not aware of any, but heat and UV light will eventually degrade polymers and make them brittle over a long period of time (years).

Don't know the answer to your question.

But, I'm paranoid about leaving things in the Sun exposed to the ultra-violet rays.

Example: Headlight Lenses

Leaving them out in the Sun is not good for sure. Always inspect them for cracks before use. Give the walls a good flex to see if they're getting brittle.

I had a set of ramps crack years ago from use (always stored in a garage)

I tried to get them warranty exchanged but they had changed ownership or something, so I just threw them out and bought another set.

Sitting in your driveway on ramps all day will be fine.

Not a stupid question at all.
Has me thinking about the garage storage at 20 below and then near a hundred in the summer.
They are plastic/polymer/ whatever that is not metal.
Maybe some high users can chime in.

And it will be easier to get off then?

No it won't but the OP appears to be distressed be the fact that he cannot remove the filter easily.

Well oil change is done, so ramps get to go back into the garage. Keeping in mind the comments about uv rays, I will of course try to mimimize the time spent out in the sun.

Thanks for the feedback.

No, safety wasn't the issue--I did have wooden boards. It was just a matter of not wanting them to crack, because they were only designed for 20-30 min oil changes, or something like that. Sounds pretty silly, I'm sure ramps have been used for hours on end, but I did want to be sure. At the time I posted, I wasn't at all sure when I would finally finish my oil change, so that also was a factor.

I ordered the set of Rhino ramps that I use April 29, 2009. For much of that time, they were stored outside and used on gravel. They still work just fine with no apparent cracks or brittleness. Not exactly scientific, of course.
