I like mine very much.

But they are not cheap...

+3. We had The A/S 3 on my wife's Charger and they were excellent.

Increasing the series with the same width would definitely add cushion, but it'd also increase the overall diameter of the tire. It might rub a bit at times, your speedometer and odometer would be off, and your car would ride slightly higher.

Normally if you go up a series, you decrease the width so you'd end up with a 215/45/18. They're a little cheaper. Costco is running a sale on Michelin A/S 3+. I have them on the Mercedes E-350, no real complaints. The 225/40 is $154 each for 4 tires install, that's mounted and balanced with a 5 year road hazard warranty. The 215/45 is $139. Sometimes tire installers are picky about installing different sized tires on a car that didn't come with them. The difference here seems to be that the 225/40 is meant for an 8 inch rim and the 215/45 is meant for a 7 inch rim. The revolutions will also be off a little, speedometer will be off by about 2% with the taller tires as the 225/40 are 25.1 in diameter and the 215/45 are 25.6.

The Generals on my wife's car are made in Portugal.

My experience with a European tire brand, and it has been very positive. The Nokian tires on my Subaru provide great grip, good tread wear, and a very comfortable yet sporty ride.

The Nokian website shows they are covered by a 50,000 mile warranty. Discount Tire or Discount Tire Direct might be able to special order them and possibly price match, too. Might be the best bang for the buck out there. I am glad I tried Nokian, now it is all I want to use.

For what it's worth, Nokian's all-season lineup is specifically engineered for the North American market, and they are made in Russia, a contracted North American plant (Cooper and Bridgestone have made Nokians under contract in the US before), or in the future, Nokian's own new North American plant. So if you're going Nokian just because it's European and supposedly held to a higher European driving standard, that's the wrong direction.

Nokian has other positive qualities to their tires, however.

These remarks don't apply to Nokian's winter or all weather tires.

Most of their summer-only zLine/Line products are made in China.

Have had two sets of A/S3. The Super Sport rides much, much better, and has better performance. Also lasts longer. The 4 and 4S should be even better.

I am also surprised, the Super Sport are also much quieter.

It sounds like you need to start over, and go with a 17 inch setup, which is probably the best all around way to go for many reasons.

Maybe it is something new.
My 3 sets of summer zLines were Finnish made.

+4. Had the precursors on my E30 BMW and they were great. The A/S 3 were only better...
