Time for struts

2013 Ford Edge SEL, I put Monroe quick struts on here about 2 years ago they've already failed, I'm not going to bother warranting them out, I'm just going to replace them. What is the best I can put on there? And still keep a really good ride quality? KYB, OEM....

KYB quick struts seem to be the best of what's available for your car.

All quick struts offered are crap, if you saved the originals you could get Bilsteins and transfer the spring with a new mount, if not you are screwed and have to buy those also.

Your best option is OEM mounts and Bilstein or KYB struts, on the original springs.

KYB seem to hold up but ride a tad stiffer. I've never used quick struts.

Yeah, you can do all that, if you feel like using a scary spring compressor and buying all the parts separately and spending a lot more money

Rock Auto carries all the OE parts to make the OEM strut assembly

You can, but if you're going to build it from scratch, you might as well get OE springs.

I'd go with the KYB quick strut. I've used KYB struts in the past and was happy with them.

You can, but a lot of those springs are kind of generic. Unless the car is really old, and sagging the original spring rate would be my choice.

I used KYB quick struts on my old Taurus... The springs they came with were absolute garbage and sagged quite a bit after a year. Garbage.

I've would not try to reuse the strut mounts. Better off changing them at the same time.

Absolutely, new OEM mounts are best.

I wouldn't go too crazy trying to find a good strut. Monroe are hit or miss. Same with KYB as mentioned above. I'd just get a new set of Monroe quick struts. The whole point of a quick strut is that it's an easy swap in and out. Used to be around $100 for the indy mechanic to swap them out. I did get a bad set of Monroe quick struts before too, bad mount but didn't realize it til afterwards when I replaced them because I thought they were worn and then a noise went away. I think they're only good for around 50k anyway and I probably went way too long on the original set. With the lifetime warranty, I just replaced them in the 50k interval and that wakes the suspension up again.

I'll get factory springs at a salvage yard before I ride with Monroe again.. 10,000 miles in 2 years..

Could be a factory defect. I had a bad set of rear Monroe quickstruts before, called up the manufacturer and sent in pictures of the tags on the struts and they said those were a bad set. Found out about it on the forum for the car. They sent me new ones without having to send the old ones back and they even offered to pay for labor to replace the old set. At the time it was about $80 to swap them so I didn't even end up sending in the paperwork to get reimbursed for labor.

I replaced my struts with KYB quick struts. The springs they used settled down 1-2 inches lower than the stock springs. Struts worked fine, springs were garbage, absolute garbage.

If I were to change the struts in my car again, I would buy new mounts (moog or motorcraft) and new struts. I will never use non oem springs again, unless the brand had an outstanding reputation behind them.

If ride height and stock spring rates don't bother you, then yeah get the quick struts and rock on.
