Hey guys, I'm going to be changing my oil for the first time after buying the car in the next couple days...its a 1993 Mazda 626 V6 AT with 218,000km on it...my mind is set on Mobil 1...just because I want to put some really good oil in this engine since it runs very smoothly right now and i'd like to keep it that way...any other recommendations? The car is driven mostly hwy. Should I get a High Mileage M1? and what #w-## should i get?

Thank you advance guys, GREAT SITE!

PS: I live in Ottawa, Canada, gets cold over here. Hearing some ticking for about a minute after i start the car.

Valvoline Maxlife 10W30 is what i would use in that car. I have a 93 Vigor with 317k-kms...used maxlife for the past year and 30,000kms...engine is very strong and does not burn/leak a drop. Even after 5h long drives from Toronto to Montreal/Ottawa.

Unless you know that engine is relatively clean, I would avoid synthetic oils in an engine that old.
Use a high mileage oil like Castrol or Pennzoil (or) a synthetic blend like Motorcraft or Castrol.

Just my 2 pennies.

It was a named employee at Hatco that did the GC test of Mobil1 EP and published his findings here. You can verify this with the search function of this forum.

My mechanic uses penzoil so I guess i'll just go with that, oh and i'm getting my oil changed at a garage because my engine is under warranty and I need to do it at a shop...not that i cant' change my oil

I paid $2500 for the car.

Thanks for the input guys.

You and I both have no idea who posted what. For all we know a 13 year old is laughing his butt off right now.

Your car has the KL-V6 with hydro lifters. Mazda orig spec'd everyting from 5w30 to 20w50 for that car, but now recommends 5w30 motorcraft oil, especially if you are hearing the infamous 'tick' from the lifters on start up.

Mobil1 is certainly a good oil, but with that many miles and a car of that age, i would stick with motorcraft synthetic blend, castrol synthetic blend, or any quality SM rated dino in either 5w30 or 10w30.

You can safely run 10w30 in that engine down to -4*F.

My 2001 Mazda with the same engine runs very good on Motorcraft 5w30, Pennzoil 10w30, and castrol syntec blend 5w30.
