Time between Oil Changes not miles

I have a 98 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L 60K. I use the truck very little. I have not changed the oil in 2 years but only have 2,300 miles since last change. I use 5w30 Valvoline full syn.
The truck is used for plowing but less than 100 miles per year. I’m I asking for trouble by not changing oil each year? Thanks for your input.

At the very least....I would change the full-flow filter each season before you use it. The water (condensation) should burn off with use as the oil gains temp. I would not let the oil go past 2 years without a Used Oil Analysis (UOA).

A good rule of thumb would be to change the oil every 2 years with a full-flow filter change mid-point for your application.

You need to fog the engine at the end of the season. You also need one of the oils with the additive that Bruce (bruce381) mentioned that is designed address engines with long layup times between usage.

I see no problem. We have an oil analysis on a Porsche where the synthetic was in the vehicle for 5 years ~ 9k miles and the oil analysis came back fine.

Synthetic's like Valvoline can be run out to 7-8k miles under most normal conditions. Time limits (6 months etc) are to catch the occasional short trippers that are doing all 1-2 mile trips and where the actual running time in hours might be very high compared to the miles actually run.

If you cut that 7-8k miles interval in half, lets say ~ 4k miles, you should be able to run 4 years or more quite easily as long as there is not a lot of really excessive idling or short tripping that is reflected in the short miles.
