Is that normal? I notice it goes away after 15 minutes or so. I'm assuming a hernia would last all the time? I just bought a portable mig welder that still weighs like 80 pounds and it's a bit heavy for me to lift. I only weigh 120 to begin with. I mean I can lift it fine, I'm just always cautious because I don't want a hernia. I have it on a wooden cart that I built, so it's really just a matter of lifting it up another 6in onto the truck bed.

Sounds like a hernia but no doctor. Start doing 25 pushups every day to increase your upper body strength a bit. At your weight they shouldn't be too difficult. How tall are you?

It could be the start of an umbilical hernia. Your symptoms are how mine started. It eventually got to where i needed outpatient surgery to repair it. probably went almost 10 years before it got bad enough.

Get it checked out by your doctor. Sounds like it could be a reducible hernia, meaning that it pops out but is able to go back in. If it gets stuck while it's out, it could be a surgical emergency since it's possible that the hole is tight enough to cut off blood supply to the part that is poking through.

I would get it checked out by a health care professional.
A hernia is much easier to fix when small than after it has become serious.
I just acquired a epigastric hernia while deadlifting 500 lbs... its a relatively small lump directly above my belly button. Goes away when I lay down on my back. Hardly noticeable, but I can tell something isn't right if I start poking it.

I have a doctor appointment scheduled for Tuesday :-/

Most likely you've had it since birth. I had one repaired about 2 years ago no big deal gets bad enough learned how to reduce it myself not always a picnic.

I had a umbilical hernia. Background: I played on the line in high school football, and was an avid weightlifter since age 13. I competed in Collegiate powerlifting until I was booted off the team (they demanded I shoot up riods, but I refused). I still continue to lift today.

Anyways, my navel began bulging in my early 30's while doing squats. The bulge increased ever so slightly over the next few years. At about age 35, I had a protrusion stick out my navel during heavy exertions. It looked like "fingertip" abount 3/4 inch long. It would retract after the exertions stopped.

I saw a specialist in Houston.

He did an excellent repair job with a "prolene mesh"

I would stongly suggest you see him or someome simular. Repairing it early is a great decision. The recovery was a breeze!

I always thought your belly button will hurt when pressing on it. Are you sure it isn't just normal tension from lifting?
