Total knee replacement complete today. In and out in 4 hours. My guy does 700+ knee/hips a year here in central VA. I had a horrible injury 25 years ago...tibial plateu fracture with associated ACL/PCL/meniscus damage. Took mos. to recover but did get back to full activity...racing mountainbikes, snowboarding, name it. Lots of field work as a geologist. Flash forward to 2023...

About 2 years ago the arthritis was getting bad with lots of general pain/discomfort. My cartilage was actually coming out on the side...when it came out low I couldn't straighten my leg...came out high couldn't bend it. Had to push it back in. Awful and limited my field work and general mood. Could no longer ride mt bikes or walk my dog. Driving no issue. Saw my guy...MRI...no fix...replace it was recommendation. Diclofenac (Voltarin) was amazing and helped with pain/discomfort but not the acute mechanical joint issue.

Back home. Can walk with a walker..modern medicine is amazing 💪🙏🤘 Shooting to do an autocross in August. Peace.

Aren't ice machines awesome! Careful with Voltarin, it will eat your stomach up.

GL man. Tough it out with the rehab and you'll be better than ever.
My little female therapist told me it was going to be a ***** and would suck. I thanked her for being honest and proceeded with a good attitude. It wasn't too bad, especially when you start seeing progress. It's been slightly over 1 year and if I don't go to the gym and work out my legs, it starts bothering me. Did you go to Va. Ortho?

Coming up on 24 hrs post-op. Big ace bandage off. Nerve block still in effect but should wear off today is my guess. Elevation, ice machine, and compression doohickies all firing. Took a trip to the second floor; tomorrow I'll head to the third floor where my office is. Alexa playing me some Screaming Trees. Had a good breakfast and lunch. Life is good....now to be able to go #2 🤣🤣🤣

My nerve block didn't work. Woke up in agony and it set me back at least a week in recovery. Don't be afraid of taking the oxycontin. Easier to keep pain away than get it to go away after it establishes. PT will go better with the oxy.

Yes. Dr. Wind at Ortho VA.

I'm not...it has a place for sure. My pain is ok with Tylenol at this point for the most part.

Never had the procedure myself but I know a handful who have. My stepfather had a total replacement (both heads).

I went to their Fairfax office. I see you had the muscle sparing technique. That's awesome. I just watched a video on that the other day. You'll be back on the track in Aug.! If I have to do the other knee, that's what I'm going for!

He didn't do the side entry (I assume that's what you mean) because I had a prior huge scar from the original injury/surgery.

2 weeks yesterday. All good. Lots of discomfort (obviously). Transitioned to a cane. Drove my Passat today. Working on getting to 90 deg bend hopefully this week. Will try driving the Sportwagen tomorrow...manual seats and low makes it hard.
I think 120 degrees is the goal. Did they spare your ligaments?

Glad Voltaren works for you. I could use a tube a day and not get any relief. Enough about me… wishing you a speedy recovery!

I'm sure but baby steps here buddy 🤣..lets get 90 right now.

What do you mean spare my ligaments?
In the normal procedure they cut your knee ligaments and replace them with artificial. In the muscle sparing technique they leave them alone. You said they didn't go into the side so I was just wondering if they still left your ligaments.

I have no cruciate ligaments anymore.
