Total knee replacement complete today. In and out in 4 hours. My guy does 700+ knee/hips a year here in central VA. I had a horrible injury 25 years ago...tibial plateu fracture with associated ACL/PCL/meniscus damage. Took mos. to recover but did get back to full activity...racing mountainbikes, snowboarding, name it. Lots of field work as a geologist. Flash forward to 2023...

About 2 years ago the arthritis was getting bad with lots of general pain/discomfort. My cartilage was actually coming out on the side...when it came out low I couldn't straighten my leg...came out high couldn't bend it. Had to push it back in. Awful and limited my field work and general mood. Could no longer ride mt bikes or walk my dog. Driving no issue. Saw my guy...MRI...no fix...replace it was recommendation. Diclofenac (Voltarin) was amazing and helped with pain/discomfort but not the acute mechanical joint issue.

Back home. Can walk with a walker..modern medicine is amazing 💪🙏🤘 Shooting to do an autocross in August. Peace.

Wow. Never pictured that’s what you looked like! Haha. Not going to lie I thought that was you in your avatar for a while before it changed. But on a serious note glad it went well and glad you’re doing well. I didn’t know you could recover that much that quickly.

I hope your experience is as good as mine.

Had mine done last December. Couldn’t take the Oxy (Crashed my BP!) so the first 2 weeks were absolute Hell. But once I got going with PT it has all been great. I have about 130 degrees bend but still can’t quite straighten it.
6 months Doctor visit tomorrow.

My mom in her late 70s had both replaced 6 months in between. Each time it was about 3 weeks to recovery. Take your time and lots of naproxen (if allowed). I'm in a similar situation and will probably need the left replaced in 2-5 years. I cant walk 10k a day anymore or long distance hike (20k+) without paying a heavy price. Its a good thing you got a VW minivan to cart you around with. ;)

4 hours later and all you can do is walk with a walker? Meh, call me when they let you out and tell you to jog it off.

j/k that's freaking amazing. There are problems with the time we live in but medicine isn't one of them.

I scratched an eye years ago and they gave me a narcotic and told me to sleep it off. Paper cut vs knee replacement. Crazy.

Like your first Zoom/Teams call on a new project/new client and everyone has their camera on. Old Avatar was Chevy Chase from one of my favorite '80s movies...Spies Like Us.

Atlas worked great for getting in/out of. My Sportwagen is too low. Passat W8 is probably fine too as its not lowered.
