Anyone catch the shows on Horsepower TV where they are doing huge upgrades to a mid 90's Ford Thunderbird? I good swear they said they are installing a GM automatic (model number was 4LE or something like that) to the Ford 427 they are putting in the car. I know putting Chevrolet engines with GM transmissions in Fords is very popular, but I've never heard of doing this!

Not very impressed, there are many better ways to upgrade the old MN12 platform that won't break the bank as badly.

That's the beauty of it.

The thing that annoys me about HP TV is that Joe Elmore makes a ton of mistakes. I have heard him say that "these heads are cast iron aluminum". That one made me chuckle. But I do enjoy the Powerblock shows in general, but they are mainly sponsor driven and therefore I do believe certain results are skewered in the sponsors favor.

These shows are nothing much but a parade of sponsors.

They recently claimed a 48 hp gain on an exhaust system for my type of car!

Totally non credible.

What annoys me about HP TV is the fact they show absolutely no creativity when it comes to engine builds, all they do is hit up the Summit catalog and produce some very mediocre builds.

It was fun to watch Mike Galley's veiled disgust when they bolted up that stock 5.0 to their engine dyno though, it made more power than most of their carb'd/cammed/no accessory/no air filter LS1/LS2/5.7 Hemi builds that they love so much.

Was this a new 'Coyote' crate motor, or an older fox body type 5.0??

If the latter, they really are some p**s poor engine builders!!

What, you don't think the old 5.0 roller engines with their 200 give or take H.P. rating were the superbeast in disguise?

That makes two of us, LOL!

+1
Musclecar and extreme 4x4 do have some good hosts who usually show me something new every epsisode though. The horsepower TV guys are the worst car guys on TV other than Barry McGuire.

Horsepower TV has gotten really repetitive and kind of boring. You can install a set of heads, cam and intake on a 350 or LS1 only so many times before it gets old. I would like to see some "different" builds, like an old inline six, a modern 4 cylinder, modern V6, etc. It doesn't have to make 500 hp, it doesn't even have to nake 250 hp. Just do something DIFFERENT for once!

They did a civic (lame) and an AMC or two... which was at least a little different.

I'd like to see an old celica, a supra, maybe a 510, 240/260/280Z
A gremlinX, maybe an old rebel v8 swap, etc.

But Joe Elmore is kinda...... nyuck nyuck....

There's a guy who runs at a nearby dragstrip with a rail powered by a ....get this... 300 I6!!!!! Freakin' old tractor mill! Has a big 'ol header on it, runs a big Holley and a host of other "go fast" parts. It actually works quite well, running 11's IIRC.

It was a Coyote, it made 465 HP on their engine dyno with all accessories spinning and the stock inlet/air filter.
