Any of you use aftermarket throttle locks on long rides to give the right hand a quick rest?

Safety issues aside, what are you guys using? From what i've seen, products range from as little as $10 to well over $100.

I've seen aftermarket ones that use a metal band and adjust using the lever.
For my 750 shadow I just bought a plastic type hand rest that fits tightly at the grips end. Basically it lets you use the outside palm of your hand to hold the throttle in place instead of gripping with your whole hand
My Harley had a throttle lock built in,instead of cruise control.
I've also see aftermarket cruise control set ups that work alright but the bike needs to be fuel injected.

Thanks.

I was thinking of something like shown below. There are cheaper alternatives out there, but this particular one seems fairly well made.

Can you have cruise control added to your bike set up? Do that if not too expensive. If it is not possible or too costly, be a little careful of controls that use friction locks, screws etc unless they can be opened or stopped quickly in case of emergency. Never know when an animal might wander into the road and you will need to disconnect quickly. FWIW

I have cruise control on my bike. Both brakes, raising RPM with clutch and it will disconnect. Have had to do that several times over the years.

Have seen pieces of hard molded plastic on the handgrip to use outer hand or wrist. Some seem to like those for rest. Choose wisely sir and happy riding. Season is almost upon us down here in the south

Yeah, Throttlemeister is the one I looked at initially, but the high price turned me off a bit. Plus, it seemed somewhat awkward to engage. It looks like you have to take your hand off the throttle and screw in the end tip to engage?

Do you have one on your GS? Is it functional without getting in the way too much?

Yes, the ones I'm looking at can be disengaged easily, at least based on the description. I haven't tried any of them yet.

I wish. The 2+ feet of snow needs to melt from the ground first and the temperatures need to get out of single digits territory... it'll be a while.

Yes I have it installed. I was going to get a cheapie but when I drove my club members bike it had me sold.

It's easy to operate, for beginners just snug it up before riding so it has some resistance to begin with, adjust your speed and then just tighten it up. Once you have mastered it I just slide my hand over with my hand overlapping between the grip and the friction adjuster, I can adjust it with my last two fingers.

This video might explain it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMMhOsmHAmE

The only other throttle control I would consider is the "Kaoko" which I used on a 300 mile road trip on my friends F800, it was harder to use for me as it was too "notchie" for me.

Thats one nice thing about being a older rider, you had to make this stuff back in the day. For a throttle lock, I use a $0.55 o-ring and I did buy one of these so I can just rest my hand on it to keep the bike going a steady speed

Still use the o-ring most of the time though.

The stock throttle lock that came on my Harley is integrated into the throttle assembly at the grip and has a wheel type under the grip to set throttle position.
But with my gloves on what a nightmare to turn and set speed, then I found this plastic clip someone posted a link to in one of my Harley forums.
This plastic is like 1 1/2 inches long and has a moulded opening at the bottom. It slides overtop one of the fingers on the wheel that sets the tension on the throttle lock so now its a simple push with my thumb to set and pull back to disengage.
When my speed is set the grip itself can still be turned,it's not a total dead stop,so in an emergency I can turn the throttle forward without any effort really.
And when riding in a group its nice to be able to fine tune my speed to maintain formation.
When riding in a big group holding formation is a huge deal. If you can't you get sent to the back.
I've never been there however I've seen what the guys look like at the gas stations. Road grime and oil all over their faces and their front facing side. Knuckles covered in carp.
Yuck

^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^ A fat o-ring on the bar end weight can easily be rolled into the groove between the weight and the grip with your pinky. This is enough friction to hold the throttle open while you exercise the hand. Twisting the throttle closed while the ring is in position is easy, and rolling the o-ring back out while riding can be done after some practice also. A crampbuster is a good addition to any long haul bike.

I have had most of them at some point. The one in the video is not bad at all but mine is sitting in a parts bin in my garage because it takes away real estate from the grip. I have large hands so that can become an issue depending on the bike.

I currently have a Kaoko on my GS and it works OK but I just don't seem to have the dexterity in my hands to use it efficiently.

This plastic one whose name escapes me at the moment obviously didn't work for me either.

Good luck.

I've used the Universal one shown, the palm rest and the Vista Cruise. I like the Vista Cruise the best, and the only negative is that it takes up some grip space. Nothing wrong with the other two but the Vista is the simplest to operate of the three.

Using this very one on my FJR. No problems. Enjoy using it actually!
