I need a tire rotation on my ford taurus and a local chain (

flame suit on) is offering an oil change with 5qts of Thrive 5w-20 with a napa proselect filter and a tire rotation for $18.99. I've done some research and Thrive is from US lubricants with a 10yr/300K warranty. Looking at the specs and 5w20, 5w30 and 10w30 being syn-blend, im assuming its likely very close to a phillips 66 blend? Data sheets aren't the same but very close. Other guess would be Citgo, since the thrive data sheet says Appleton, WI on it.

Has anyone seen or used this oil before? Hard to pass up a cheap oil change and tire rotation for cheaper than a normal tire rotation. Plus its a 2001 taurus, lets be honest, its not worth that much. Cant be too bad for a 3K oci until I change it again with a Fram TG and some mobil super HM.

Thats when I say no thank you, pay my bill and leave. I'm not concerned about that since I don't put up with that, I'm pretty blunt about it.

Should be fine as long as they actually change the filter. Try to watch them in the bay if possible or stand by the garage door. Afterwards monitor the oil level at least every two weeks. Just to make sure the car doesn't gobble up the oil. Take those few precautions and the car should be fine.

I bet there's a free brake inspection.

My biggest worry is about your lugnuts being overtorqued.

that sounds like one of those 'to good to be true' deals.
$19 for a 'blend' with a filter, even a cheap NAPA filter would be hard to believe.

Most likely the oil is a bulk oil. As in 55 gal barrel.

I was in an out in 30 minutes. Tires were rotated properly. It now has a Napa proselect and is at the full mark. I paid and walked out with no up sell or speech. Just said thanks and come again. It was a bulk oil.

Guess we will see if the Vulcan explodes.

US Lubricants appears to be a real deal blender and Thrive looks like another one of those perfectly good limited distribution oils that you've never heard of.
The company also blends dexos 1 licensed oils as well as low and mid saps Euro oils and syn blend and synthetic HDEOs.
USL also offers custom blending services, so we could contact them and have them run up a batch of BITOG dream spec oil.
The only problem is that we'd never reach a consensus as to what the dream spec basestock blend and adds would be.
For the time and money involved, I'd say you done good and the Vulcan will be happy with anything that at least pretends to be oil.
OTOH, you could have rotated the tires for free in your driveway and done the oil change using a better oil and filter for $18.99, but you already know that.
