I have been in the EMD plant in LaGrange, IL and it really resets your brain when you see them build and assemble the engines there. Maybe you can fit your arm thru a automotive engine block (piston bore), if you are thin. These locomotive engines you can put your head in! Loved watching them make an engine.

The amazing thing is that it penetrated the roof of the house on its way back down to earth...yikes!

Around here they don't run a very high RPM-that's some power to shoot the whole cylinder assembly right off the block & put the piston through somebody's roof that far away!

I LOL'd at that one!

Same here!

Guys, it was from using 5W-20 in the engine, nothing more.

We all know they should have been using 10w30 for proper engine protection - that's what is used in all high-mileage locomotives!!!

Threw an entire power assembly! Impressive! And it was a GE, not an EMD. Even more surprising.

And the comment about it not being RPM related is true- the maximum RPM on a 7FDL is something like 900 RPM. I'd love to know the exact sequence of events that would lead to a failure like that. I'm thinking maybe crankcase explosion.
