Three in a row. Here in MI I see lots of cars under wraps all the time. I think Car and Driver is here in MI if not mistaken. They had Media license plates. All of them had LED surrounds for taillights and blue hue headlights...it was dark out at the time though.

I've seen them also driving to and from work. I was driving with one all the way home on Wed. Anyway, the ones I am always seeing have M plates on them.
Saw two the other evening going north on Newburgh in Livonia (Michigan) and then headed east on 7 Mile. The tail lights caught my eye. It was dark though, so I wasn't able to get a good look. They had "M" (for Manufacturer) plates on them.

All you guys in Michigan start carrying digital cameras with you so we all can see what your looking at. The advantage of living in the auto kingdom.
I have a friend who makes his living doing just that. He sells spy photos to all the major magazines and media outlets.
Best place to see a new Ford without wrapping paper imo is right along I-94, across from the Ford Allen Park Test Lab, is a plant called the New Model Programs Development Center, or the "Pilot Plant". I cant count the number of times I've spied new cars there.
ASC in Southgate used to be a good target for coming show cars, as they used to do a lot of contract work for custom one offs for GM, Ford and Chrysler. Classic Design Concepts is still a good place to see some one off stuff.

One thing that I really miss is working at the Windsor Chrysler Assy Plant in the 1960's. In the spring, the next model "body in white" would arrive from MI to allow the tooling to begin for model change. The body would sit for weeks on a surface plate in an out-of-the-way section on the second floor. Measurements were taken and jigs/fixtures built for the upcoming model year.
We saw in Feb/Mar what the public saw the following fall model launch. We had a new Fiat 500 in town here last summer with MI manufacturer's plates on it.

I saw a Chevy Volt on the road yesterday, no plates of any kind, though I believe they are being sold already.
We get to see the new prototype cars on the roads about a year before anyone else sees them. They're easy to spot. They're either covered 80% with car-bra-like material, or they have this psychadelic white/black op-art paint. This paint scheme is meant to camouflage the car so no one can pick up the styling detail, but all it does is draw my attention.
Back in the early 80s I remember seeing the Dodge Daytona two years before it was introduced. It was a clay model in the Chrysler studio. It really got me excited because car styling was rather boring at the time. The hottest cars from Detroit at the time (except for Corvette) were the Ford Fairmont, Mustang, and I think the Chevy Celebrity.
