No. He was a ball turret mechanic. When the war ended he flew several food drop missions, which was when the airborne pictures were taken.

Later he got sent to Germany as part of the Allied occupying force. Look at the pictures to see where he was deployed.

My late grandfather's thermos. He carried it around for decades driving truck. Through multiple trucks over the road and a lot of years hauling logs out of the hills. I found it at my parents' place and I'm going ask if I can keep it.

When management doesn’t listen about a messed up machine, you make them listen!

One of the…. “Machinists” decided to use an 18” crescent wrench on the cross slide of our big lathe while feeding into a part. You’d think trying to force a tool through solid metal would make some noise, maybe even a lot of noise and some red hot metal. You’d be correct, but he kept going and gave the old one a nice dog leg.

So it’s 16-18 weeks for a new one, or we combine part of the old one with part of a new but “incorrect” one. Turned a 0.7498” nub onto the threads from the good shaft, cut the mangled threads off the old shaft (as seen) and turned a 0.7500” bore into the remains of the old part. They go together so precisely it turns into an air spring… or makes an incredibly loud “POP” when you pull them apart. Then cross drill for a 3/8 pin and all done, 6 hours vs 16 weeks.
