Just recently the topic of glass polishing came up and I remembered a project that I was working on way back when I was still in high school. The project concerned the manufacturing of a reflector telescope. I knew I had a few pieces from that project in a box and I found the box today. I remember grinding with ever finer griot and lapping glass blanks as precisely as possible. All sorts of measuring devices were used to ensure the surface was properly ground and finished to a very tight tolerance of less than 25 nanometers. The glass was then silvered and used in the construction of the telescope. It's been over 30 years so the details are hazy.

Counterclockwise from the top right: lapping stone, glass blank, glass blank after having been finished on both sides - green glass for probably no reason, partially lapped glass blank, silvered mirror - that one was not perfect so I go to keep it You can't tell in the picture but this is not a flat but a concave mirror.

That's an awesome project to be a part of.

Interestingly Costco said the tire is not repairable. It was odd as if a screw was bent over back? But they said it’s two screws.

Here’s where I do the math in my head. Months ago this happened and it was $104 pro rated for a $249 tire. This time it’s $125. Did we wear away $21 worth, doesn’t feel right but at any rate this way we can have 2 tires about the same on one axle. We had 1 new tire and 3 others at 27k of wear…AWD too…

See the oddity?

That is weird looking alright. Makes you wonder how it happened.

That's repairable with the right internal patch that has a built-in plug. Costco being paranoid or simply incapable.

Had a problem with my back up 442s grip, thought it would be easy to get a OE sized replacement. After two days of searching it turns out that a square butt j frame is less common so I called S&W and they said they didn’t have any in stock and hogue made their OE grips and to call them and hogue said them could not sell me because of licensing issues. My second call to customer service resulted in them offering a free pair when hogue shipped them. Weird how everyone pushes oversized grips.
