Took the ol' '96 Cherokee out for a rare adventure today.
Safeway tried the coin-operated shopping carts in San Francisco many years ago. It didn't catch on. I think the low deposit of just 25 cents wasn't enough to make customers return their carts. In Europe and in the Republic of Ireland the required deposit is 1 Euro and £1 in the UK.That’s a pet peeve of mine as well. Unfortunately, I have a physical impairment that highly restricts my mobility. It may sound rather biased, but I’m one of the few people that can actually justify leaving the cart where it is. Conversely, I like how they handle this in Europe, especially Italy. Each cart has a coin slot were you put in a one euro piece in order to unlock it from the rack like airport carts. When you’re finished loading your groceries in your car, you have to take the cart back to the queue where you interlock the cart into the other carts to retrieve your euro coin. That’s the incentive and it works very well. There are absolutely no empty carts laying around in the parking lot. This also reduces theft. They handle all the grocery bags in a similar fashion. Everyone brings their own cloth bags from home or pay the price for bags as you’re checked out. They’ve been doing this for decades, and this is one thing that I think would be helpful here in the states.![]()
Next time I’m in Arkansas I would love to sit down with you if you got that kind of stuff in your fridge lol. I turn 21 this month haha. I’ve never tried any of those beers yet. Only tried the cheap stuff you can get at the store because that’s what my friends drink haha.
I actually like the “cheap stuff” lol. I’ve tried more than I can count on two hands haha. Sparingly of course and only at home with my parents there. My favorite cheap one has been Coors Light so far. That and Corona Extra. Bud Light is by far the worst in my opinion lol though the lime one is good. I’ve been wanting to try Yuengling everyone tells me it’s pretty good. My dad introduced me to some German beer called Grolsch? Maybe. Green bottle with a swing top. It was really good to me. I can’t remember if that’s the exact name or not. The top three on my list of cheap Coors Light, Budweiser and Miller Lite. Or tied for second is Corona and tied for third not sure if it’s really beer but Mikes Hard Lemonade. The bottom three Michelob Ultra, Natural Light and Bud Light. I can’t remember if Bud Light or Natural Light were the worst but they were both gross lolOut of curiosity, what did you think of the “cheap stuff”? If you’re actually interested in beer, try some German imports,..even some from England, Ireland, and Scotland. Support local business and sample some local breweries, most usually have a food menu to pick from as well. I bet that you’ll find that the cheap stuff is cheap for a reason.
I will say this, enjoy in moderation, it’s about actually enjoying the taste, not the feeling after too many.
Cheers buddy.![]()
CAFE did...Someone beat theout of that engine.
you're missing Erdinger and you'll have a complete beer collection!
If we were sensible and use $1 coins instead of bills, which would save a lot of money since bills wear out in ~18 months and coins last 18 years or more, then it would work as people wouldn't readily abandon $1 as they will a quarter. I'm surprised some enterprising soul didn't return numerous carts in SF and pocket a bit of money though.Safeway tried the coin-operated shopping carts in San Francisco many years ago. The most “feeling” I ever got was on New Year’s Eve watching the ball drop and celebrating when I drank two beers and a few sips of some disgusting wine lol. I stumbled over a chair trying to catch a stink bug but managed not to spill a drop of my beer lol.
I’ve got my beer stash it’s down to 4 cans lol. Have you tried the hard Mtn Dew drinks by chance? Been wanting to try the Baja Blast one as I love the regular drink Baja Blast so I think I want to try the hard one.

That was the place for the cheapskates...no tipping

Oh yeah I heard about that...Zee,
I am on tip burnout.
After working in Asia for nine weeks in countries where tipping is frowned upon, I just worked in Honolulu for a week. I have to eat out every meal, my hotel did not provide coffee, and I needed to park the rental car via valet. I was tipping likely $65 plus per day. Every single transaction a tip was expected. Burnt out on tipping.
