A few more shots from Palm Springs.

It never rains in Southern California - Hey now!

Clearing up a little but getting fuzzier! There are close to 3,000 windmills in the area, most of them were built in the 1980s and some are 300 feet tall.

A Famous BOA building designed by Rudy Baumfeld. It never rains in Southern California. I told you so.

Cruising through the hood. Palm Springs is very nice. Clean streets and sidewalks. No visible police presence. A nice place for the elderly.

On the tram, looking down at Palm Springs and the vast windmill farm - the light-colored area in the valley. It was actually way below freezing and the lens kept fogging up from 50 people breathing around me. We were also rotating along with the gondola floor. I also was wearing only a t-shirt and a windbreaker because I had no idea I was going to end up on Mount Snow. Thought I might end up like Shackelton.

The tram is Swiss Made and there is only a handful of other trams with rotating cabins in the world. This particular tram was featured in several movies and on various tv-series.
Were the wind turbines running? Up in northern California where I used to live, they weren't...because they were killing birds. So, they were just sitting there collecting dust.

Maybe a quarter of them was operating - it wasn't a windy day. Birds getting hit by wind turbine blades is unfortunate but a much larger number of birds hits buildings and towers, windows, powerlines, and vehicles. The number of bird deaths due to windmills should be evaluated in the context of the total number of bird deaths caused by human activity. Look up the numbers. The Altamont windmills are usually running. I drive over the pass every couple of months.

With wind turbines it's not the total number of birds but rather the disproportionate number of raptors, which breed very slowly and are not represented in any real volume in the other mortality categories.

That is a good point but the total number does matter. We are still talking about as many as 1 billion birds killed in North America alone by human activity.
