Rescued Otter
A couple of friends did volunteer work at the Marine Mammal Center in Marin County. Many of the creatures had serious medical problems, and I saw some wonderful results from the treatment they received. This little guy melted my heart ...

Yikes. Crazy energy use I bet!

4 ton AC think it's a 16 SEER iirc, when it's this hot I just turn the AC all the way down so it runs all day. If I set it at 73 it'll turn off once every hour or two for 5 minutes - just long enough for the compressor protection timer to run. Electric bill this time of year will be around $250/mo.

My once a week date night with my son. We did normal guy things - took some batteries back for core charge, bought oil and filter for what he refers to as the "action wagon" (The Buick), got a couple new shirts and supplies for his church camp next week, and ended with his favorite style of restaurant.

That's a great looking taco dinner. What restaurant (and where)?

With Pablo showing all his fine dining... My wife's lunch at the Hacienda de Sol in Tucson. Her lunch was as good as it looks - which was fantastic! The entire facility was great.

We were there to visit the Pima Air Museum. My Dad served in the 8th Air Force, 96th Bomb Group out of Snetterton-Heath. Check out the losses. The 8th lost 4,754 B-17s during the war. My Dad always remembered the raid on the ball bearing factory in Schweinfurt Germany. Soemthing like 330 B-17s were sent but only 200 returned. Hard to imagine.

Slo town, Martin Caidin's excellent book "Black Thursday" is about the Schweinfurt raid of October 14, 1943.

IIRC, 60 of the 300 Forts were shot down (58 by Luftwaffe fighters and two by flak), most of the remainder were damaged, many of the bombers that returned had to be scrapped, and many that returned carried dead or wounded aircrew.

Although a follow-up raid a week later would have been decisive in destroying the ball-bearing factories, the 8th was too beaten up to try again.

The great comic book artist Sam Glanzman illustrated "The Day I Died", an account of the deadly Schweinfurt raid. This was in Air War Stories, Issue #1. Made quite an impression on me as a little fellow.
