It didn't vent it looks like. I had that pipe plugged as I was only going to use it as a marker, access to measure if I ever wanted too. Apparently the water came in around the barrel and didn't go in it. It has many holes drilled in the top and bottom. Barrel sets on a 4x4 and void filled with rock. It was a 3.5" rain.

mine drains about an acre and 230 ft long channel. Get flowing water in a heavy +2" rain or really wet years. it was washing out the pond bank so I made a depression and that catches most of it. Down 44" it blow sand. I think it would have worked OK if I did not have that vent plugged. It's settled down almost all the way but I have to take it out and redo the whole thing as the sand and rocks have washed in. Never meant for a 3.5" rain. Quite a bit of flow off into the pond.
