I've backpacked and camped on the wet side of San Jacinto. Ca 1972. In the winter. CA boy. It was very cold. Near zero. Troop leaders were trying to get me to eat is one hard memory and getting the sole of my hiking boots to melt a bit near the fire. Tube tents. Not even sure what my bag rating was. I slept in my jacket. I ate some oreo cookies, wouldn't eat much else. I don't remember much about the other guys. I have the feeling that I was the smallest/youngest. Aluminum frame pack.

Thanks for stiring ancient memories. Great photos.
I was off by a calendar year - 1971. This hike below is the only one I kept a patch for. The others I had sewn onto various backpacks.
I was still in Jr High school.

Lots of tumbleweeds (trees?) on I-5. Tumbleweeds have a peculiar reproductive cycle. It involves snapping off and hitting the road. I saw some really big ones crossing the freeway and had to dodge a dozen or so in high wind conditions. I saw a big rig pulverize a 15-foot tumbleweed. I had to dodge the debris.

This was one of the bigger ones. At that time it was having a rest but ready to pounce. Coming out of one storm and heading into another.

Picture of the Escape at work today. My plates got dirty so had to clean them off then decided to take a picture lol. Thinking about how long I want to run these plates. Today I was already looking at different designs haha. But I do really like these plates and when I do decide to change them they will be on my list to get again in the future for sure.

The 2004 nascar dodges are some of my favorite race cars. They looked so aggressive.

Carnage of left front shock holder. Someone definitely was off-roading this. Control arm destroyed, wheel cracked in 3 places. Lots of $$$$ to fix this BMW suv
