Mount Mt. San Jacinto right is located near Palm Springs and is just under 10,900 feet high. The Palm Springs Aerial Tram takes you almost to the peak. The tram consists of two counterbalanced gondolas, the largest rotating cabin gondolas in the world. The trip up the mountain is 2.5 miles and takes about 15 minutes. Sub-freezing temperatures up there. If you hike up there you don't have to pay for the trip back down.

One picture and two crops.

As seen from the base station.

A better look at the gondola. The cabin floor is rotating continually 360 degrees during the trip.

The docking station is the structure toward the left. The higher-situated structure to the right is a multistory building with restaurants, longe, shops, lockers, and a viewing platform.

When you finally convince dad your milk is better than his so he buys the kind you like lol 😂. Can’t stand that nasty cottage cheese milk called 2% 🤢. Anything but whole milk is not good. 1% is slightly better than 2% but I can’t do skim or 2% or 1%.

I'm glad I didn't have to live through the carb era 😳
Most normal Quadrajet in NYC
It started though, not bad for 15°

I didn't live through the carb era....but had some beat up old junker tbi cars I had to try and start in single digit temps. Flooded everyone of them and learned how holding the throttle to the floor while cranking and slowly releasing the throttle while holding the key to start would get them going. A delicate balance between releasing the throttle and key and then sitting back and watching all the gray exhaust plume out.

A few more shots from Palm Springs.

It never rains in Southern California - Hey now!

Clearing up a little but getting fuzzier! There are close to 3,000 windmills in the area, most of them were built in the 1980s and some are 300 feet tall.

A Famous BOA building designed by Rudy Baumfeld. It never rains in Southern California. I told you so.

Cruising through the hood. Palm Springs is very nice. Clean streets and sidewalks. No visible police presence. A nice place for the elderly.

On the tram, looking down at Palm Springs and the vast windmill farm - the light-colored area in the valley. It was actually way below freezing and the lens kept fogging up from 50 people breathing around me. We were also rotating along with the gondola floor. I also was wearing only a t-shirt and a windbreaker because I had no idea I was going to end up on Mount Snow. Thought I might end up like Shackelton.

The tram is Swiss Made and there is only a handful of other trams with rotating cabins in the world. This particular tram was featured in several movies and on various tv-series.

I've backpacked and camped on the wet side of San Jacinto. Ca 1972. In the winter. CA boy. It was very cold. Near zero. Troop leaders were trying to get me to eat is one hard memory and getting the sole of my hiking boots to melt a bit near the fire. Tube tents. Not even sure what my bag rating was. I slept in my jacket. I ate some oreo cookies, wouldn't eat much else. I don't remember much about the other guys. I have the feeling that I was the smallest/youngest. Aluminum frame pack.

Thanks for stiring ancient memories. Great photos.
