Thoughts on the Silverado 2.7 turbo engine

Definitely would go with boutique engine oil in the oem weight or Mobil 1 0w40 and change every 3-5k. Upgrade transmission fluid too, maybe with a Banks pan to increase capacity and cooling. About only modification I would add would be exhaust on a truck with a turbo. Drive it reasonably and you can pick up a bit of mpg or power

This thread is all over the place. If anyone ever towed with that ancient V6 (I have, not for long) they’d know this modern turbo can pull his pontoon boat with ease …
Is 16 the sbc based 4.3 or when they introduced the LT based one? I know the LT was an order of magnitude better... but it's still a v6 in a full size.

That's kind of what I've been seeing from forum reports and TFL runs etc, the turbos get worse MPG towing.

1 or 2 mpg may seem like a wash, but when we're comparing 8 or 9 vs 10 mpg, that's a 10 to 20 percent loss in fuel efficiency vs a NA.
For how much more pleasant the experience is i typically would take the loss... outside the noise anyway. That's really the only reason I'll never own one. I'm sensitive to certain sounds and that engine drives me nuts.

I run both, one year apart. They both get the same mileage, the V6 still has DOD and gives up refinement to the 5.3. But in a 2wd I understand it get great mileage.

Definitely go with a 22.5 or newer the older version of the 2.7 is lower in HP and a few things were upgraded with the latest version

I have pulled a 68 Chevelle on a car hauler as well as a CLA 250 but only because one of the larger trucks was occupied and I drove it accordingly

My only regret is both of the trucks I got have the AUTO transfer case that ONLY has 2 high and the Auto with hill descent control it has NO 4 low 😤

Omitting 4low on a 4x4 full size truck or SUV is crazy to me. I get that most people don't use 4x4 often and those that do probably only need 4-low occasionally, but IMO 4L is one of the main reasons to get 4x4 in the first place. Not that I've been off road in like half a decade, but still.

Absolutely imagine my shock when I bought 2 at the same time and didn't notice until the first time I had to use it .....everything else matched up to exactly what I wanted

Mainly 6.6 foot beds with quad cab and the large fuel tank

A close friend of mine has one. I commuted with him for the last few years. He maintains it well, but the majority of the driving was bumper to bumper city driving.

He hasn’t had really any problems. One sensor went bad and a brake caliper otherwise it was routine maintenance.

I thought it was very comfortable and drove great. I did drive it multiple times. It definitely made for good daily driver.

His boat is about 5k and he never seemed to have any issues towing it.
