Use Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 in winter and Castrol High Mileage 5w30 in summer.
My reasoning (concerns) are as follows:
Would love to use a 0w30 high mileage oil year round, but can't seem to find any, hence my plan. Decent plan or am I being paranoid? Also, at what temp (in degrees F) does a 0w protect to? Both my vehicles call for 5w30, since they are identical engines.
My reasoning (concerns) are as follows:
- 1. Last winter, when temps (with windchill) got down near minus 40F for a week or two, my drivetrain made a horrible, nasty grumbling, grinding noise. Even at operating temperature, the noise didn't subside much. Hoping the 0w30 will help with that and to get good gas mileage.
- 2. Like to use high mileage oil to help condition the seals and rings so my vehicles won't consume any extra oil. Currently, neither one need to be "topped off."
