I’m
Pre pandemic would a 10 year old base model Mustang go for $13k? Then again no offense it is a specific buyer set who are attracted to this vehicle.
I wouldn't lump him in with a specific group. Really, he doesn't care. Just wants dependable transportation and this popped up in his search

$19k seems like a lot for a 10 year old car that is average all around not particularly useful or extraordinarily dependable. I cannot fathom buying a Mustang as a don’t care car unless price was cheap.

I was considering one as a cheapish rwd car to autocross and do some lapping with. For a DD with the manual they would be fun. Pretty much as fast as the previous GT V8's and they did have a more track ready version with the GT suspension, brakes, dif ratio, steering ratio.
Negatives as a performance car, IIRC the manual trans isn't very tough, the regular ones are speed limited to 116mph or something because the driveshaft is prone to fail.
For just a DD car, probably something else is better option at that price.

Lots of other models are more reliable than a Ford Mustang, and can probably be had for less money with lower cost of ownership. Yes 17k miles in 10 years can be a problem in itself -- low mileage is good, too low is not good. I would pass unless his heart is really set on a Mustang. And please encourage him to be a safe driver, patient and calm. Too many teenagers focused only on having fun while risking the safety of themselves and everyone else on the road. Sorry for the rant... most people don't realize that driving a vehicle is the most dangerous thing we do every day.

I think he's already moved on to something more practical - he has NO car sense in him and doesn't really differentiate a Mustang from a Corolla. Just a car to him... An appliance. He currently has a '97 LeSabre and is looking for something that is in better shape, needs less work and what he feels will be more reliable.

He is an adult but doesn't have the driving experience that others his age do because he really didn't start driving until after he got out of the Navy. He's not a an aggressive driver in the least, follows all traffic laws to the best of his knowledge and doesn't engage in (as far as I know) some of the bad habits that others do
