This was a surprise

For my brother's Alero we ordered new Raybestos Advanced Technology rotors from Amazon. Surprise one, Amazon said "In stock but may require an extra 1-2 days to process". But they arrived 2 days after I ordered them and that was with free shipping!

Surprise two, they were made in USA

. These must be older stock. Raybestos rotors use to be made in USA but mostly now I see made in China.

Only $40/rotor, arrived within 2 days with free shipping, and made in USA, can't complain about that.

One little tidbit, Amazon said these rotors don't fit the Alero but they are the right part number. With Amazon their parts search isn't too good and you need to know your part number when you search.

Their parts finder tool doesn't work 100%, its best to always cross check with the manufacturer so you do not have any issues..

I usually look up part numbers and price on Rockauto, then compare their total prices with Amazon. Shipping included in the total usually till toward Amazon for their free shipping.

Definitely old stock. New ones are made in China - and probably cost $90.

They are older stock from July '08, but not corroded or anything. That's back in the good ol' days when they were still made in the USA and for the same price or less than China crud versions.

I've seen the china version of this exact same Raybestos Advance Technology rotor and the casting does not look quite as hefty. This USA rotor blank looks like OEM.

Amazon is even better when you pay no sales tax! unfortunately, in TN, we will have to start paying sales tax in 2014. they opened a new warehouse in our state.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but technically, we are all supposed to claim and pay taxes for out of state mailorder purchases when we file our taxes annually. To not do so is breaking the law. We are all criminals.

It is called a "use tax" , as described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Use_tax

Until recently, this tax wasn't enforced, but many states are starting programs to collect this money. Michigan claims that it loses millions a year on out of state purchases.

No criminality here, I pay the NY Sales/Use tax "safe harbor" amount on my tax return, which varies by income. Covers any out-of-state purchases under $1,000.
