This is my Town....

I spent 10 years working on sister units to those turbines, and it seems some things are common.

Girls in year 11/12, planning (not hoping, but scheming) to "snag" a coal miner footballer as a trophy husband, not worrying about schooling and where's the money going to come from, as the mines paid.

Would hear them while they worked at the local supermarkets as checkout girls, telling their co-workers that they hoped to be pregnant by Christmas.

It was unreal to move here, and see the culture.

Miners weren't moving away, due to the money, and the qualifications that they needed to get it (they can have that job, 12 hours underground, you couldn't pay me enough), girls didn't aspire to move away (or if they did, they moved way away as professionals, Drs etc).

A lot of the entrapment ended up in domestic violence and divorce.

Free contraception would have done nothing to the culture, as the view was to "settle down".

As we became closer to the big smoke, and property prices rose, more and more of the women were forced into work, and having fewer children...

And the Baby bonus kicked in, $5k for having a kid...$5k was more than most of these girls had ever seen...so guess what ?

A mate with a Doctorate in Philosophy once stated that he saw an agenda to create population, cannon fodder, and make them feel happy about their "opportunities"

But the money is a right their parents are on a benefit, their grandparents are on a benefit - as one of the guys says ''Why do I need a job when money just gets given to me?''

It's hard to break the cycle when they haven't got a hope of getting a job in these economic times. The contraceptives are already available, but as our Prime Minister says "All we are making sure of is they are fully aware of the options available to them."

When I was a teen, we had enough protection on board that the wallets in our back pockets looked like they were advertising the Olympics, with all the embossed rings...we were made aware of them at 14 (in a Catholic school), and 30 years later are still only $4/dozen

There's jobs in Huntly, and 32 year old Grandmothers in Oberon, NSW.

We get the behaviour that we reward, and if we reward it, then it's something that "we" obviously want...whether "we" want itor not.

Check last night's Oz budget for details.

Yeah, I bet all eyes were on the Aussie budget - watch for a new influx of mossies. As Robert Muldoon said - ''Everyone who leaves NZ to Australia raises the IQ of both countries.'' These dropkicks are going nowhere fast....but just out of town would do for a start.

Yet according to a certain Georgetown student, in this country it's insulting to *not* give women contraceptives.....

In Chicago, people were almost bred by the Welfare system in the projects [gov't housing].
At 13 and up, girls had as many babies as they could and knew the Gov't would pay for them and housing. This was the normal lifestyle, and what they would do for a living. This still goes on.
It sure brought votes by the truckload for a certain political party for many years.

The problems and costs were horrid, and are infused in society to this day.

Now, surrounding towns were forced to take hundreds of these families and pay for them in special housing. Crime and property values were made worse.

So contraceptives for free?

Probably the best money the Gov't can spend.

Presented to all as a student, but actually a feminist activist who is well known in certain circles. A complete dog and pony show for the press to amplify.

New Program suggestion:
Contraceptives free for the asking.
First baby on welfare, okay.
Second baby on welfare, no pay for either unless you are fixed.

But when we are talking ideology, any practical approach to problem mitigation goes out the window....

200 might turn up for an advertised checkout operator at the supermarket. Actually there might be a job going there, as one of the checkout operators won the 27 million Lotto...and has left. Bought himself an SS ute....second hand. Still off topic, it was booked for Murf to do burnouts at the Hamilton Supercar race, and the new owner said ''Choice Bro,I'd love to see Murf give my new car a thrashing, and can I have 3 tickets too please?'' They said no, so he said no. No wonder they are not coming back to Hamilton, we don't want them.

We have advertised for a mechanic at work - no way will we get someone from town, we have a mechanic and parts person who commute from Hamilton. They would have to offer a lot to get someone to come here, and they won't....offer the money, or come here. The extra money I would earn in either city, or other town would be swallowed by commuting costs....but for the right job.....
