GAHHHHH Pennzoil BLOWSSSSS!!!!!! Yay somethign I'm actually a semi-expert at.
I change oil for a living. Synthetic is better for anycar. then only time you dont wanna use synthetic is if you leak or burn oil... Because It'll leak faster and burn faster. DO NOT use Pennzoil. it has this weird [censored] chemical that the name escapesa me at the moment in it that causes massive amounts of this snot lookin sludge in cold weather, and some nasty black sludge in the summer. Use Mobil 1... Or Royal purple if you're rich. Quakerstate's about as bad as Pennzoil. Castrol isn't a whole lot better. I work for Valvoline, so I'm paid to say its the best.. Valvoline also has a High millage Full Synthetic called maxlife Full Synthetic. It's great **** if you've got over 75k... But I've got 85k on my Leggy and I use Mobil 1... so that's what I recomend.

I am ashamed to see this on the auto forum I call home.

so changing oil for a living ( like a jiffy luber) means he knows what to recommend to others?

all the oil i have changed over the years, it always looks black

I tend to agree. I also directed him here.

I mean, I'm switching to Pennzoil Conventional after this OCI from Castrol GTX. Silly sodium additive, this Subaru owner isn't happy about it.

LOL!!!

I agree...I have a hard time taking oil advice from a Valvoline quick-lube "technician" who can't spell or properly punctuate a simple sentence and who obviously subscribes to the ancient "Pennzoil causes sludge" theory that was debunked years ago.

From the "Pennzoil is teh debul!" guy upon my suqqestion he check out BITOG to refute his claim:

I really don't care what that web site says... this past winter, 9/10 cars that used pennzoil that came to my shop had modderate to severe gunk build up in the motor.

My reply is I believe that would be more resulted from neglect and poor quality parts than anything else, but if he wishes to disregard an entire site devoted to motoroil study, he's welcome to ignore data.

I feel like I'm back in my undergrad philosophy classes.

So, … Pennzoil sucks and Fram sucks … Hmmmm … I think I'll put Pennzoil and a Fram filter in on my next oil change … …

KABOOOOOOM ……………………… … that must be my engine blowing up.

Ah, great. You hiding out here too? They all catch on to you after a while. It's not like at work ..you know, where you need a program to tell the players??? (Shh- they may hear us).

It's funny how he's been using "Mobile 1" for 80k miles. There is no such thing as "Mobile 1" oil. Must be a new brand.

Just picked up a 5qt jug of Pennzoil 5w30. It has a new sticker on the front, of a clean shiny piston.

My Integra has 140k miles on it using conventional every single oil change for 3-5k, except one 4.5k amsoil interval, what's all that black tar under my valve cover? Oh wait, it's shiny metal...

Yeah, that's because the 9 out of 10 engines he sees previously had been changed by a Jiffy Lube-style "tech" about 15K miles ago with Pennzoil as per their normal routine.

Of course neglected engines will have problems and the lubrication will suffer.

This is part of the problem with a lot of the people who claim to be in "the industry". Too many "I saw an engine with Pennzoil in it and it was sludged" so it must be true that Pennzoil SUXORz LOL!. Let's think rationally and research instead of unreasonably reacting.

I like his 9 out of 10 line. Is he like that "4 out of 5 mothers use Jiff" commercial? Or "3 out of 4 dentists recommend Dentyne". I'd like to see his research...generalizations don't cut it.

Seeing cars that are running in the 300k to 500k mark on Pennzoil conventional and still running like a bat outta "you know where" is all the proof I need to know it`s definitely one of the best oils made.
