This hits too close to home for me

Somehow we've moved past that. We were keeping some of the containers from takeout, as they had nice dividers and worked well for leftovers, but we haven't ordered out (in?) much lately. And we don't buy butter in tubs anymore. The "real" containers seem to last longer, so whatever we bought in the past has lasted longer than the free containers.

Something I've started doing over the last few years is stopped using cardboard boxes for storage, and bought the clear bins for keeping things on shelves. Being able to look in and see what is in the container... wonderful. I was at a ham radio event last weekend and I noticed that "lots" of others were using that idea for bins. Talked to one guy and he said, hey it can get rained on and not damaged. And you can see inside the box without opening...

Soup containers from Panera Bread work GREAT! Microwave safe too!
Then on to the recycle bin after it gets stained.

Kinda like turning in used oil, don't ya think?

So far we have 2 large drawers filled with re-usable containers. Mostly from Chinese take-out. Our store uses some very good re-usable containers. I do routinely cycle out the old ones, but we eat Chinese food 2 times a month so they routinely get replaced. Also have a fair amount of lunch meat and cottage cheese containers.

We tend to keep take out containers. Long term storage is kept in vacuum sealed Ball jars. I've kept Salteen crackers two years and they come out fresh as new. They usually only last six months. We generally keep stuff in unsealed Ball jars for short term storage for stuff that fits. Wife hates any kind of plastic.

My aunt had so many empty containers of all shapes and sizes stuffed into her kitchen cabinets on the verge of falling.
Every time I would visit I would secretly throw out a few of them.
My dear departed mother-in-law
