This Former Jaguar Owner is Embarrassed

I guess the big question is what will the cars actually be? Unless they are recycling some other platform they have the almost fully developed to be available in 12-18 months.

I wouldn't underestimate the means of any particular demographic.
I'm not saying I am, just that certain things are said of somewhat affluent EV buyers and seems to be a common opinion in social media. I'm sure that will shift as EVs become more accepted though.

At least another old British company is rising from the ashes, Royal Enfield. The Indian’s are producing what people like and can afford in the motorcycle world.
Not really, they are an India company who bought the rights to the name and models, they are not the same company that starting in 1901, the machines are made in India and are not the same quality either.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

About 40 years ago I discovered that having to depreciate our new and newer cars every year was having a major negative effect on our family's Net Worth. [I have calculated our family's Net Worth every January 1 since about 1980.] So I stopped buying new cars and started buying and then keeping good quality cars for as long as they're rust free and reliable - which is about 20 years.

I have to think that simple idea has had a big effect on our family's accumulating wealth.

All that to say, driving older cars may be one of the reasons your friend is wealthy.
And if you run a small business and buy a new, expensive car, everyone wants a raise.

Exactly! Not sure why people are lamenting at this clown show. Jaguar, as people remember it, is no more and likely never will be.

I'd be a lot happier if Jag put their awesome bodies on a well tuned Tesla chassis. Maybe then I'd like a Jag EV. But to expect them to get EV's right is a stretch. Their previous EV offerings fell quite short. And for God's sake, no pouch cells.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume this ad was crafted before the election and was predicated on the results of the election being 180 degrees from where they landed. The over the top DEI angle only makes sense when viewed through that lens.
I think you give too much credit.

It's an ad team that is disconnected from cars.

The anticipated results have nothing to do with that.

They were not selling the car, they were virtue signaling.

That doesn't keep the production lines running or the units rolling off the showroom floors.

Treat people with respect, even if you don't understand them or their world. AND, remember your core business is to engineer, build and sell the best car you can.

I think Jaguar has lost the plot here.

They forgot they were a car company.

Maybe they could bring back:

You sell the sizzle, not the steak. They feel like this kind of sizzle is where the market is.

I don't think they did their marketing homework. This will not go well.

Tomorrow we will see the cars.

The problem: Jag is actively distancing themselves from their gas powered vehicles. Offering only 4 years support.

Since vehicles last 15 to 20 years, this will anger all existing Jag owners. Another point they admit.

Clearly they want their gas powered offerings off the streets.

I absolutely love my Jag. Time for an Aston Martin? All joking aside, I can't afford anything, and I certainly can't afford my low mile F-Type to become worthless and suddenly useless when something breaks.

Stumbled across this video that seems to have just been released: Jaguar 00

Jaguar has been a special brand for me since 1955 when my uncle brought his new XK-140 MC roadster to our house. Since he lived in NYC proper, and we lived in the suburbs, he'd bring the car to our place to work on it. He'd always let me help, show me the engine and how things worked, as well as his modifications (he built a rudimentary fuel injection system that he could control from a knob on the dash), and afterward we'd go for a drive somewhere. We'd often "top the ton" on some interesting stretch of road ... good memories.

So the new car is called the 'Typo' after a new logo with a random capital letter in the middle? I can't help but think they're either total idiots or this is one of the best trolls ever.

If what I'd heard so far is not bad enough, Jaguar are reducing the number of dealerships in the UK from from 80+ to 20. There will be no dealerships in Scotland or in Wales because it's considered that there is not enough wealth there. Dealerships will only be retained in affluent areas of England. Sounds like a recipe to shrink the company to next to nothing in terms of sales volume.
