LTX 1000. 20 hp Briggs & Stratton. Pressurized oiling system. It is all there

Well it has been sitting 7 years because of a bad deck pulley. A bit rough. Pulled the carb cleaned it. A little piston soak. Fired right up runs and moves great. Will probably just give this one away to someone who needs one. Which is what I do with most of them.

I do like the hydro drives on those mowers. I haven't seen a failed one yet, they really are quite simple well-built little machines compared to today's stuff.
They are pretty decent. I've got the "LT2000" version of that mower. It's a Peerless/Tecumseh hydro drive that has separate reservoirs for the differential gear oil and hydrostatic oil.

What I also like on these Sears/Husqvarna machines is the simple mechanical PTO.

These were like the S10 & Rangers of the era... they're everywhere. Which is nice b/c buying a cheap parts mower to keep one in order is easy. This one is nicer than the older LT1000's that use to come w/single or opposed Briggs w/no oil filter on them. 20 HP & fender mounted hydro can't complain too much. Does that hydro stay in place after you let go of the lever or is it the type you must hold the lever forward to move forward?

That is a good analogy. Not only that 99 percent of the parts interchange. All my hydros but one have the lever that stays where you set it. My Cub Cadet has a "gas pedal". I like the lever better. This LTX1000 is ugly but man it runs well, is complete and I have a deck ready to put on it. Older lady I know needs one I will let her have this one. The mower she has not run in years. I will probably take it and try to get it running so she can sell it.

I believe the least expensive rider, that is comparable to this machine is close to $3000 these days. It's crazy.
It's a difficult comparison, because even the $3000 riders of today are not meant to last more than 5-7 years without expensive repairs. This machine is probably 20+ years old and with a little work due to neglect and sitting it still mows.
