So I have 7 qts of NAPA Synth 5w-20 left from the case I bought on special the other month, and I'm thinking about mixing it with the NAPA premium conventional 5w-20 in my mopar 3.3 to make it last longer (3 qt conv. with 2 qts synth).

Having been a reader here for a while now, I have begun to over analyze the wisdom of doing this. Both oils are Ashland products, and part of me says this should make it fine. But then I read these hallowed threads and worry that mixing them could create competing chemistries among the addpacks, which could cause the resulting cocktail to perform below mfg. spec.

Good idea? Bad idea?

I mix all the time. I usually don't have the same stuff already open for top ups so I just end up adding whatever is around. I've had 4 different brands in the sump before.... The car still runs. :p

Yeah - I guess I'm over analyzing based on doing it myself instead of buying some that was done on their machines.

I'm gonna do it!

Should be good, I used to do 50/50 of the same weight brand syn and conventional all the time. I figure instead of guessing at a synthetic blend for % of synthetic just make your own.

In my opinion, the best synblends are those we concoct ourselves. At least-then we know the amount/percentage of synthetic being blended.

Mix away, especially when using the same bottle producer-name when blending.

They HAVE to be able to be mixed, if they are the same [like SM]

Additive clash? That would be odd.

Maybe with different mfrs, the add packs would be not at their best, but not a harmful clash .
