Thinking about getting a 2015 Nissan Sentra SV

We've had four Nissans so I'm biased. But have you looked at the Mazda3? A low specced but nicely appointed Mazda6 can also be bought (actual price) for surprisingly low money.

Can you get the sentra in the manual option? If so thats what i would do. If not, I would stay away from nissan CVT transmissions. Ive heard that they arent as good as Toyota and Honda. Maybe look in to Kia, Hyundai, VW, Toyota, Honda?

There are much better cars in the segment to consider over the Sentra.
What is it that you like the most about the Sentra?

BC.

For sure and the QG engine is ummmm..wel......antiquated.

I have a 2001 Sentra with the SR20DE one of the best 4 cylinder produced by anyone.
IMHO the later Sentras are pieces of junk.

I would hope there is some compelling reason why you want to get into a Nissan beyond you simply like the looks. They are Japan's No2 carmaker but it's not because of reliability or quality ... they are cheap to buy there. Elsewhere, where imported cars have to compete harder, they don't crack the top 5. There's a reason for that.

According to the Consumers Reports 2015 Buying guide, they state the car feels underpowered, is obnoxiously loud, the ride seems complaint at first, but is jumpy and abrupt over pavement imperfections and the handling lacks agility but is secure.
Its a crummy, little car.

Rented one for a week and great on gas but very cheaply made. Wind noise was awful. Road noise was just as bad. Power wasn't that good but what do you expect out of a Sentra. It rode pretty rough too Too many reasons too avoid one than to buy one. If you really want one take a long test drive or rent one first.

I can't comment on the Sentra, but I've driven a current gen (2015) Versa with the CVT and that car was not pleasant at all to drive. Everything felt very cheap and the CVT was awful.

Edit: just wanted to add that I also drove the current gen Altima with the CVT and it was worlds better than the Versa, so maybe the Sentra falls somewhere in between? I would honestly look at Honda, Toyota, Mazda and even VW before biting on the Sentra.

I've put 30k miles on my 2014. Great mpg on the highway. Lots of space. High value considering the low cost. My Sr was 15 new. The power is on park with comparable cars that are not manual. It will not win any contests in any category.

That's what I was planning and from the looks of things I will stay the course with a late model corolla.

I am not sure what you are looking for as far as driving dynamics but the Corolla is lacking. They are reliable cars for sure but boring to drive, consider Honda / Mazda / VW if this matters to you.

Not really just looking for something to drive to work and around town in, and not have to spend a fortune on gas every week.

I bought the Versa for A to B transportation. Gets me there @ 38 mpg. Roll up windows and all... 13K out the door so life is good. I couldn't be happier.

I'd lean towards a Toyota just on resale. [I guess Honda has resale too, but I'm a fanboi.] If you decide you need more vehicle, usually the resale is higher. They also tend to be cheap to repair, Toyota tends to keep their technology factor low, and use the same part(s) for eons.

I was tempted by the Versa S with 5MT, but in the end couldn't stand the lack of sound deadner. Just seemed like it'd be too much of a penalty box for the driving I need to do. I also dislike all black interiors. For a while Toyota ditched the all beige and went heavy on gray; and that is about what I like. Too bad Toyota gave up on that too.

I was poking around last night, and Toyota does have 0.9% on 2016 Yaris. It's still a $17k or so car, with a primitive 106hp & 4AT (!). The 6MT Corolla wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.
