. gas price will be back in a buck a gallon when we invade iran. not trying to

but we had this same issue in the 70s and we overcame it.

JOKING.

i am actually walking to work nowaday. i live 3 miles from the office and just walk. the walk itself is not bad, just that there is no shoulder for me to work on so i have to constantly jump into the ditch and walk when cars coming.

if i take a shower twice a day due to this, i actually loose money from walking because it cost only 80 cents to drive to and from work verse the cost of hot showers and the extra 2 hours in commute. but at least i prove i am much less depending on foreign oil and get some exercise out of it. i don't care so much for people taking an hour out of exercise a day since it shows they got a lot of free time. i spend my 2 hours to actually make a difference.

gas is actually 4 bucks here already.

With conversion, gas is about 5 bux US here in beaverland...

Me? Taking the transit of course. My fit patiently sits in front of the house quietly waiting for me to take her out for a ride (weekends honey, have patience...)

Q.

A recent study conducted by Harvard University found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year.

Another study by the American Medical Association found that Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcoholic beverage a year.

This means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon.

Sorta Makes You Proud To Be An American.

With the way SUV sales are going, I'm sure the dealerships are trying to get rid of them at ASAP. They will probably give you a free H2 after the first purchase. BOGO on SUVs

OP here,

i am so busy w/ family that it is almost impossible to exercise. so this walk is my way of getting exercise. now i got to call my insurance to see if they lower my rate a little. we have 2 cars only so it is low but not low enough if i walk to work and never use the cars.

I had a 55 mile roundtrip commute in DC. Biked it 1x/week. Only added 1 extra hr commute time, got great exercise. In the rain, my commute was = to vehicle commute time.

Now, unlike some cyclists, I stopped at all red lights, etc.. Wanted to be fair and not upset motorists. Still, cars would honestly take pot shots at me. One car ran me off the road twice in one evening. Another time, car came over a sidewalk and chased me up the grass. Happened every other week, consistently. Too dangerous, and disheartened, I quit.

Dissapointing, I do not think a whole lot of the "average American" way of thinking.

M :-(

To me if you lived 3 miles from your work fuel mileage would be a distant criteria of owning a vehicle. You likely could snag up whatever vehicle you like even if SUV on the cheap if used or likely new.

3 miles is like 10 minutes minimum for me on a bike. scooter would be the way to go I think if it's a downtown traffic environment.
