things not looking great for the Mustang Mach-E sales

I test drove one and there was a lot to like about it. All the same EV driving qualities you are familiar with. And the seats were very comfortable. The interior volume seemed large, and yet Ford made sure to have door features (protruding speakers) that take up critical space by the knees. Ugh.

The shorter range example I drove lost quite a bit of charge on my 15 or 20 mile highway test drive. I was driving it fairly quickly, like 80 or so, it lost a percent per mile. Although I was not a serious buyer, I could see the practicality and appeal of the thing.

I would not want this car, mainly because of the dash board stupidity. Are all these Tesla copy cat crap?

Somewhat? The problem is some of these companies don't know what they're doing and see Tesla selling and think it's best to emulate them. A poor copy that is more expensive isn't going to be as popular, especially if they're going to use a name that is going to get their enthusiast crowd butthurt. Ford did a lot wrong with this one. It's not a bad vehicle, but it's not great and they've had multiple issues. It's going to be an uphill battle if the Mach-E is to reach profitable status.

Being a Ford guy, I was hoping to like the mustang ev, but just sitting in it was a turn off. No I did not drive it.

My wife told me the other day that she wanted one. It wouldn't make horrible sense for her to drive it given her commute and we would still have 2 other ICE vehicles.

My fear is she'd forget to charge the stupid thing and be forever stealing my truck. I'm always getting notifications from Life 360 about how her phone is at 5% battery, like on a daily basis.

I would actually rather she get some form of either Hybrid or PHEV, but that's a battle yet to fight.

I can see that horrible tacky dash and tablet being ewaste in 5 years.

I really don’t understand why people buy vehicles (gas or EV) that are designed like the mach e.

Thing never made sense to me as to who would buy it.

Not sure I understand why the screen sitting proud of the dash makes it ewaste. It’s just bad design language that is popular now. We’ve had screens in cars for 20+ years now.

Guaranteed it will get broken or smashed, that’s just how that stuff works for me or the backlight goes out

I really don't know what the alternative is. They've made combined stacks where the AC and radio were combined well before the screens. The only difference is a screen input instead of multiple fragile buttons(depending on the manufacturer). I always remember buttons breaking off and falling out on friend's old cars in high school. I always was modifying car audio so I always had new radios even though I had very old cars. Those of course were easier to work on for me, but had a lot less capability. Nowadays everyone wants their cars to do a million things and the screen is the most universal way to make everything compatible and have whatever layout is needed.

I get they can be expensive if they have problems, but what do we have that isn't insanely expensive? The cars are expensive, the phones in our pockets are expensive. It is what it is at this point and unfortunately the cost to play with new technology. We don't have to buy the top expensive models.
