Whats a good way of thickening an oil? Any additives out there that would thicken an oil?

STP engine treatment, the 4 cylinder version of which I understand has higher anti wear additive levels.

Valvoline Maxlife Engine Protector seems like it would thicken the oil. Also Valvoline Synpower Oil Treatment, which is in a thread below.

Not sure what you are trying to do, but if you say you have a load of 5w30 in your crankcase and want it thicker, I would say drop one quart out and replace it with 20w50. That'll thicken your oil up.

Actually, I am planning to give GC a try very soon, but i'm a bit worried that it may be a little thin since I've been used to running mid-40 wt oils in my engine and they have performed very well, so just looking at what i can do if i find it a bit thin when i put it in during the summer months, especially since i will be putting it in within a couple of days. The engine is a supercharged LT1.

Plenty of additives out there, but what is the objecrive you desire? Are you doing oil testing?

Walmart Oil Treatment, STP, Rislone No-Smoke, etc.

All of these are high molecular weight OCP's.

I would not recommend using any of these unless you have a smoker engine and need some extra mileage before rebuild.

One of the safer ones is Schaeffer's #132. Take your GC and add 4 oz. then send a sample to Terry Dyson and see how much the viscosity increased.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will most likely go with the Schaeffer's if it gets much hotter, for now I will stick with the GC alone
